A month or two ago I saw a video someone had made of an exchange they had with a customer at work. The video had two cutesy CGI dog-like animals talking with very basic gestures and motions. It googled the watermark in the corner of the video and it took me to the site the guy had used to create the video. The name was four letters long but it wasn't a real word. There were multiple themes or scenes you could select, enter dialog, etc. Most of the themes were very cutesy- animals, flowers, etc. The speech seemed to be rendered by some typical voice-to-text software as it was very flat with no inflection. Overall it was a pretty easy to use website.

I've got home video in a number of formats that I'm trying to convert to play on my PS3. I have a Very Large NAS with integrated UPnP server (a version of Twonky), so I'm not looking for a new way to stream the data. I've got Handbrake 0.9.8 for OS X, which doesn't (appear to) have a preset for the PS3. I've dug around a little bit, but every set of settings I've found either results in data the PS3 won't read, or video that's more artifacted than I expected (common symptom - horizontal striping when things move). Anyone have a good set of parameters to transcode to something the PS3 can use?

I saw
this cool demonstration of grace and balance on YouTube and now I want more. From the context, it looks like the 2013 champion of a Japanese TV Asahi show called
Kamiwaza. If this is the champion, you'd think there'd be a dozen or two other performers who weren't quite as awesome as this, but were awesome enough to be worth watching. Google and YouTube don't seem to know much, though. (Although I did learn that Kamizawa is also a PS2 game and apparently a
Polish cosmetic brand.)
Can anyone tell me more about the show? How long has it been running on Japanese TV? Where can I see more?

I'm trying to track down a viral fashion video that featured a model in a meadow of flowers at golden hour, with a wind machine following her gestures, flattening the grass and flowers. I can't remember what it was advertising — maybe perfume?

Hello,
I was hoping that someone could name the turn-based space strategy game I played as a demo on my PC back around 1995. I offer these sketchy details:
--it was a turn-based game where you piloted and battled using one or more spaceships
--the game offered the intriguing feature of allowing you to design new spaceships
--I remember learning the word "chassis" from the game, since you could choose what type of chassis you wanted in ship design, among other choices
--the GUI was predominantly a gray-colored menu with text and options that you could interact with using the mouse, along with some more-or-less static images of planets and spaceships
--I don't recall much in the way of storyline or even characters
--I think you didn't see faces of characters much at all, or much of them otherwise.
Thank you for trying to help me penetrate the obscurity.

Looking for a basic DVD + Blu-Ray player with HDMI. Doesn't need any kind of network streaming (TV and other devices handle that already). Ideally under $100. Am okay with buying used off craigslist or something if the model is known to be pretty reliable. Suggestions?

I would like to know what options are available to me to enhance (or indeed the opposite) video streams - What I'd specifically like to do is download specific youtube footage (personal use) and render it with a jumpy black and white Pathe film-like quality. What would be the best approach to achieve this? - And please take into account that I have no Apple products to hand and very limited experience in manipulating the moving picture.

How can I save the LA Times' time-lapse video of space shuttle Endeavour's journey across LA for posterity (on my own computer)? It's really beautiful, but I'm afraid they'll take it off the LA Times website at some point. I'd like to save it for personal viewing later. I don't know much about these sorts of things (flask, etc.). I have an older Mac and no video capture card. Is this even possible? (Nevermind whether it's legal). Thanks all! Answer in the hypothetical if you prefer. ;-)

CHALLENGE TIME! You are lent some expensive, professional grade video equipment for 18 hours and told that you may use it as you see fit in the time you have. Assuming little to no preparation beforehand, what do you do and/or film with it? Ideally you'd like the owner (or anyone else who sees your work) to be mildly impressed, knowing that you have no actual solo film making experience whatsoever.

Looking for an Internet video: Humanoid robot soldier patrolling a real, Third World city. It combined live action footage -- which looked like Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, etc -- with a digitally inserted, Terminator-like robot soldier patrolling the streets on foot. The robot appeared to be a motion-captured actor, from its level of fidelity. The project appeared to have a somewhat political slant about the eventual use of robots in combat.

I'm teaching an online course on internet culture and of the first sections is on music videos and youth culture specificaly. To counter-point the peppy more mainstream examples like Rebecca Black, I'd like to show a specific music video of a teen hipster girl singing in a lazy cadence about her love for a boy - but I can't remember her name or the song. She sang with the song's lines running together. She had some vocal fry in there. There was a macbook on the bed. There was only one other girl in the video and they were sitting around the bed mostly. The laid back vibe and simpler subject matter of the video captured something I'd love to show. Anyone know who she was? Thanks!

If not, what is the easiest way to play videos in sync with the backing tracks?
