Kid BlahLaLa's pediatrician wants him to take a calcium supplement, because he's never been into milk and doesn't eat very many milk products. But Kid BlahLaLa, who is almost 10, refuses all children's calcium supplements as too gross-tasting. (He's not ready to swallow pills.) He will accept a particular adult supplement, but when I combine that with his usual daily multi-vitamin I'm worried that I'm overdosing him on Vitamin D. There's so much woo on teh internets that I can't seem to get a straight answer about how much is too much.

My wife and I are taking care of our out-of-town niece, who is a month short of her fourth birthday, this weekend (and possibly our nephew, who is six months younger). We don't have kids of our own, so we're kind of clueless about how to entertain children that age. What are some fun and not-too-expensive kid-friendly things to do in Toronto this weekend?

I've been wracking my brains trying to remember the identity of this female folk singer from the 1980s-1990s. She made at least a few albums targeted at kids, incorporating many environmental themes. And I can't for the life of me remember even enough to do a proper Google search. Gah!

My son is now 15 months old, and I would like for him to have the best possible mathematics education. What should I be doing now and what sort of long-term plan should I have in order to help him both to learn and to love mathematics? (He doesn't have to be a mathematician when he grows up, but really knowing mathematics is non-negotiable.)

I've got another "what was that thing from my childhood?" sort of question, and I've combed through Google and Amazon and Abebooks to no avail. A book of short quirky poems for children, probably illustrated. Mid 1970s. Very likely published by Scribners, we had tons of their hardcover books from an uncle who worked there (now deceased, so I can't ask him.) I
thought the title was "It May Be So, It May Be Not", which was also the title of a poem in the book that went, either partially or entirely...

Tomorrow I find out if my two-year-old son has Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. There's no "good" form of MD, but this is definitely the "bad" (and most common) version. Most children with this diagnosis are wheelchair-bound by age 12, and the average life expectancy is 25. There is no treatment and no cure. How do I, as a father, deal with this?
