Can I get my second monitor to emulate a higher resolution? I have an ATI Radeon video card using two monitors. The second monitor only goes up to 800X600 (an old LCD). However, Microsoft Flight Simulator X only allows the resolution of a display to be set to as low as 1024X768. I'd like the second monitor to think it is at that resolution and display a portion of the 1024X768 on its available area of 800X600. i don't care if the rest is not visible. Any ideas? Thanks!

I need to print a huge map, but I need a high resolution source, or vector graphics. I will be printing this on a large 64" color plotter. I found a place that sells pdf/vector files, but they are wanting near $100 dollars, and I don't think they even cover our County. I was hoping there was some software out there that allows this, or better yet, some way to output large images from google maps. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It’s almost the New Year! There’s a lot I want to accomplish in 2008, but I find New Year’s Resolutions to be kinda lame, plus I always end up forgetting them by February. I’d like some sort of substitute that will get me excited about self-improvement right away and still keep me going strong for months/years to come. Ritual value is nice, but more importantly, it has to work. [more inside]

I'm gonna try to cut together a little political viral video and would love to get my hands on high quality video of the recent democratic debates. Does anyone know of a source on the net to download full resolution (720x480) quicktimes of the debates, or has anyone out there taped or tivo'ed the debates in the greater Los Angeles area who would let me either copy/borrow what you recorded? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I'm having some trouble figuring out what my screen resolution should be. My monitor is the Dell UltraSharp Widescreen 2007WFP... which is a 20 inch widescreen. Its native resolution is 1680 x 1050. At this resolution everything is very clear and normal and good. However, everything is a bit too small for me to read comfortably. The monitor is maybe 2 - 2.5 feet away from my face, which I think is normal, but everything is still just a little on the too small side. Because of this, I've been using a 1280 x 800 resolution with a 96 DPI. Everything is easily and comfortably readable for me like this. The only problem is I lose a lot of screen real estate vs its native resolution, and everything becomes just a slight bit less clear. So, what I'm wondering is, what should my settings be? Thanks in advance for any help.

During the Ubuntu install process (text-based), it asked what screen resolutions I would like X not to include. Not thinking, I selected my preferred resolution (1280x1024, the most my monitor can handle) and hit continue. Now I can't use that resolution in my finished install, as it's not on the list in the Screen Resolutions system panel. How do I recover that possibility? Thanks!

Help me understand a screen resolution problem. I just got a brand new lenovo t60 laptop which came with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 graphics card. However, if I change the resolution to 1280X1024 which is my ideal one, it looks like utter shit! [more inside]

Help me clear up my misconception about display resolution: I always understood it that on the same 15" screen that if you went to a higher resolution, it would pack more pixels into that same 15" space. But resolution appears to be length of number of pixels x width of number of pixels. So is a 1080 hdtv always going to be bigger than a 720 hdtv? What am I missing?

I have a 1024x768 resolution. When I run programs which are native to 800x600, instead of stretching to fit the whole screen, they show in 1024x768, but in a small box in the middle of my screen with a huge black border. The same thing happens when I manually change my resolution to 800x600 - resolution stays the same, but the viewable area shrinks, leaving a small rectangle in the middle and a large blank space around it. How can I fix this? [more inside]

2 to 3 times a day my work computer locks up and i get a pop-up message: "The s3sav4 display driver has stopped working normally. [Save & reboot]" My screen drops down to a 640 x 480 display with almost no color. I reboot and everything is fine again (for a few hours). The cheap bastards here are not going to buy me a new computer. Is it a hardware or software issue -- any clues as to the nature of the problem and if there anything I can do or download to fix it?
