I like my vinyl records. I want to make digital files out of them. What are my options ... which don't include a new turntable and, preferably but not absolutely, don't require my computer and stereo to be in the same room? I'm on a Mac.

I need to get rid of my collection of vinyl records - approx. ten feet-worth of LPs, 12"s and box-sets. But now Beanos is going out of business, where else in London or south-east England will buy them - and is that my best option? [more inside]

Where can I buy vinyl online? I've used Insound before, and although they are great, their selection is limited. The only place I usually have success finding anything is at my local music shop which isn't very local anymore. The other post I looked at regarding buying vinyl online was limited to club/deep/progressive house, but I'm looking more for indie rock records.

I'm in Waco TX for tonight and tomorrow (Fri 6th October - Sat 7th Oct) visiting family. Anytime I travel I like to visit the local record shops. I'm staying close to Baylor University. Are there any decent cool shops in the area (20 mi radius) for second hand CDs & Records? Books too while I'm at it.

I am selling several rare 7" records on ebay. Since a few of them look like they will sell for $30-$80, I am am now concerned about how to best protect them when I mail them out. Can I cut out cardboard and use bubble wrap or should I purchase boxes specifically made for 45s? Any tips would be appreciated...

DJs - where online do you buy your vinyl? I've had great experiences buying from Juno in the UK, but I'm looking for alternatives. Google turns up a bunch of stuff but if you have any personal recommendations or experience buying from other sites (especially North American ones) please share. I spin mostly club/deep/progressive house.

Help me help my grandpa. I need a record player that will spin 33s/45s/78s AND support stacking up a bunch of discs that will then play in succession. He doesn't believe that 78 players are still sold, period. I know that's not true but finding one that will play a stack of discs one at a time is another story. Any help? Something slim and low-profile which I can install into his old stereo console will be helpful. Bonus points for sub-$200.

I picked up an old John Lennon / Yoko Ono 45 at a yard sale, and on the vinyl itself, written in the plastic, is "one world, one people". It looks hand written, and there are a bunch of numbers near it. What gives?

We were rearranging the shelves in my house today, and we found a bunch of old tapes from my
Dad's friends from when he lived in Spain (he was born there, as was I). His friends mixed
a bunch of bands together to make this very cool-sounding tape, and the thought struck me: Why not
rip this? (edit: also found bunch of old tapes my brother made of a punk radio station. woot!)
Of course, I lack the knowledge required.
So my question essentially is: what sort of process, programs, and materials is one required to
go through to convert these tapes to mp3? Would the machine I'd have to buy also double as a
tape-pl-ayer itself? What about records? I've been wanting a record player for a while, and I've
been wanting to rip some records as well. Are there record-rippers which double as players? Are
there record/tape player/rippers all combined into one machine? How complicated is this process?
How expensive does it have to be? I don't want to end up with really badly ripped files, but I
don't want studio equipment, either. Basically, what do I have to go through to get good
sounding, 192-320 kbps mp3s from my tapes and records that I could then distribute via
BitTorrent? Thanks.

I'm looking for a better way to store my vinyl records. Right now I probably have 500 or so sitting in milk crates on my living room floor. I'd like as cheap of a solution as possible, so I was thinking about just pulling the old cinderblocks and some boards deal. I'm not opposed to buying some premade shelving though. Any ideas?

I have a Stanton Str8-20 Turntable coupled with a Yamaha CR-640 (1980 vintage) Amplifier. Playing orchestrated music, the loudest sounds of the vinyl will distort. I had to 'tune' the turntable before using it, and this was my first time. I googled but nothing helped. Can anyone give me advice regarding the distortion, which is probably relevant to the fine tuning of the turntable? [more inside]

I just came into some perfect quality classical music, but i have no turntable. My stereo is pretty decent, so I want to ask if anyone has advice on a cheap (but high quality... how often do you hear that) record player? I'm not doing any scratching, just music playback. [more inside]
