John Nash and the establishment of reality

In the film A Beautiful Mind, John Nash struggles with realistic hallucinations of imaginary people. At one point, a representative from the Nobel Prize approaches Nash, and Nash checks with a student familiar to him to verify that the Nobel rep is real. Philosophy Filter: We act as if there is an objective reality, so why not assume that there is?

We act as if there is an objective reality, so why not assume that there is? I am looking for the philosophical theory that basically states "yah, I know everyone has different perceptions of reality and that our perceptions can deceive us, but most of us believe and act as if there is a shared objective reality (so there probably is one.) Can anyone recommend a simple text/author that might describe this?

I am searching for examples of The Infinite, or the immeasurably large, in our mythologies and archetypes. I am also interested in the categories of Truth which came out of the emergence of Western, ontological thought. Does the trust in a rationally conceivable reality deny us the infinity of the mythological realm? By rooting ourselves in the present, and denying atemporal mythologies, do we also deny the infinite origins from where we came? [more inside]
