Convert to Real Media files on OS X?

I have a current project I'm working on that I have to output a Quicktime file as a RealMedia (.rm) for a Real Helix Server. Apperently the format is locked and I have no input on using a different file but I'm having trouble getting the video converted to .rm on OS X. I've done quite a bit of searching but I don't seem to have any options, RealMedia seems to have locked down their format so that their files can only be written with RealProducer, which only runs on Windows/Linux.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! I've got Quicktime Pro and FCP HD 4.5 for what it's worth

Streaming audio server statistics

ObscureStatisticsFilter: Help me find usage and market adoption statistics for major streaming audio servers. I'm looking for usage numbers for streaming audio servers to help me estimate each one's marketshare. Icecast vs. RealMedia vs. ShoutCast vs. Windows Media Server, etc.

Terrestrial, internet-only, hobbyist, pro, whatever: something like: "In 2004, X stations were serving audio with RealMedia, Y stations with ShoutCast, and Z stations with Windows Media Server" and so on.

I'd like to see some sort of one-versus-the-other breakdown - or links and cites to help me ad-hoc something along these lines.

How to capture audio streams?

Does anyone know a command line program that will dump real media and/or windows media audio streams to a file (on a windows PC)? I've been trying to do this using mplayer, but there are two problems..

1 - It's unreliable on some real media streams, and i can't get it to work with Windons Media files at all.
2 - I can only get it to work by dumping wav files to disc, not the original files.

Ideally, I'd like something that dumps the original ra/wma file to disc, which I could would then be able to convert to wav/mp3 manually. It's got to be command line, as I need to be able to schedule it.

I'm got a download manager (reget) that I can use to dump Windows Media files to disc, but it's not command line. A command line download manager might be of some use to me..

All suggestions welcome!

Recording RealPlayer Streams

How can I reliably record RealPlayer streams for later listening, on Mac OS X or Linux? [MI] HiDownload does the job pretty well on Windows. It downloads different bits of the stream in parallel, (apparently) at whatever speed the connection can handle. So a slow connection doesn't produce a glitchy download. But I don't have a Windows machine!

IRecordMusic is the nearest I've found on the Mac, but it records in real time so my flaky wireless connection results in annoying drop-outs. How can I get perfect downloads?

Buffer Problems

Why is it impossible for me to watch/listen to streaming video without the program stopping every few seconds to buffer? I tried to watch this video on both RealPlayer & Windows Media the same thing happened with both.
