What's a good alternative for Google Reader? My employer just started blocking Google Reader (via Websense), saying that it's using up too much bandwidth. (Yeah, sounds funny to me, too.) I suspect there's some alternatives that aren't blocked, but I really love Google Reader and miss being able to jump into it at work. I appreciate any suggestions. [more inside]

So frustrated... For the past two months my GoogleReader has been making my unread items expire (i.e., not show up in the "new items" feed view) in far less than the standard 30 days. Right now I've got things about 10 days old, at one point it was down to three or four days. Why? And how the heck can I fix this? Old news is still good news! [more inside]

How can I filter a feed based on the absence of terms rather than the presence? I've used feed sifter before, but this won't handle terms you want excluded? Specifically, I'd like to set up an rss to Amazon's Gold Box that excludes the terms jewelry, necklace and watch as that would massively cut down the clutter from this feed.

Lately NPR podcasts such as Fresh Air, Wait, Wait..., and All Songs Considered have been acting wonky with multiple files of the same podcast, often incomplete, showing up in my podcatcher. I subscribe via Google Reader and dL files manually to my player, and have tried un- and then resubscribing to the feeds, but to no avail. Is it NPR's problem or an RSS issue on my end? I haven't been able to find any notices regarding service issues on the NPR sites.

Many of the feeds I follow have a lot of activity (such as the one for ask.mefi), so by the time I get a chance to look through them, there may be hundreds (thousands?) of items. If I'm not able to get through all of the items at a time, the next time I come back to the feed, I have to scroll through the items I did get to before I can reach the older items. Is there a way to "mark my place" in a feed and skip directly there, rather than having to scroll through all the already-read items? [more inside]

I use google reader as a feed reader. Recently some of my feeds seem to be getting doubled up. I don't really know what happening but when i read I will see and article and then a day later the same story will show up as unread again. It is really starting to bug me. Any ideas?
