RAID HBA help sought: Server has its internal drives RAID'ed by an internal RAID card. I am trying to add another SCSI HBA card so I can hook up a nifty external SCSI-to-SATA RAID DAS tower. Problem is, however I install the new HBA, it "hides" the existing internal RAID card, meaning that the server doesn't find its own internal drives and can't boot. What to do? [more inside]

I've got an nVidia nForce 570 motherboard with 5 drives (500 GB each -- 465 GB actual) in a RAID-5 array. The RAID has been working well in Vista until yesterday, when my system froze. Now nVidia's Storage control panel reports a "Healthy" array with 5 drives but with a capacity of only 465GB (rather than the expected 1.81 TB). Can this be fixed? [more inside]

A couple months ago I got a new motherboard, but earlier today it crashed with a hardware error and the built-in soundcard no longer works, and I'm worried that other things might go as well. The complication is that my main system drive is actually a RAID-1 array using the motherboard's built in RAID controller. So the first question is: how easy would it be for me to recover the data if the motherboard dies? and the second question is whether or not I could get the board replaced under warranty, and if so would I just be able to swap it in without reinstalling XP? I managed to trash my partitions today trying to install Vista RC1 and dual boot XP (my fault, I did something stupid). Anyway. Since I'm starting from scratch I was thinking it would be amazing to install Vista, XP & Ubuntu, but I'm not sure I can even do that. My problem is that I'm doing a software Raid (0) of my system drive. I know with my old computer it looked like a nightmare to get Ubuntu and XP to share a software raid and I was hoping maybe things have improved, or that my new motherboard/raid controller might work better now though. What do you think? Can it be done? Thanks! [more inside]
