I have a PCI-E SSD as my boot drive, and a win7-created RAID 1 on two 3TB drives. My boot drive has my user folder on it, but my documents, music, pictures, videos, etc folders shortcut to their respectable folders on the RAID. I would like this to be a full redundancy scheme and it is, but I've run into several nags and I would like to know how to fix them and prepare a fix-it plan before any of the drives fails.

I have a software RAID5 array in Ubuntu. According to the SMART status, all the devices are okay (one has "a few bad sectors," but the health is green). I have 5 drives, but I can't get the raid to assemble! I'm about to try raid create as outlined
here but it looks risky and I was hoping to see if there's something simple I'm missing.

How would placing two (or more!) Compact flash drives in my

Sanity check: I want to build a large external storage device. I have a tower that I'm not using. I don't want the tower for anything but its case. Can I just hook up hard drives (5 or more) to a hard switched PSU, run the data cables to a SATA port multiplier, then connect that to the eSATA port on my "server"? Oh, I have RAID questions too.

I've ordered a RAID 1 unit. It's not here yet, but I need to get an idea about how much power it draws prior to making a decision on a new UPS.
It's a 2TB NewerTech Guardian Maximus RAID 1 unit. (Two Hitachi drives inside).
Tech support says it draws a maximum of 36 watts. The online specs rate the power supply at 4.2 amps, which, multiplying volts by amps, works out to well over 400 watts. That is, if thats a valid measure of power consumption.
Anyone have experience with this or a similar unit and how much power it draws?

I am trying to clone a Sun V440 server that is using the built-in raid (not disksuite). When I move the seed drive from the original server to the new server, the raidctl program complains that the drive is already part of another raid set (which it is), but I'd like to use it anyways as a seed for the new server. Any tips?

I have a server with a Perc5/i RAID controller and 8 drive bays. I'd like to use it primarily as a storage server, with the idea of buying 4 drives now and expanding later. I'd like to put ESXi on the server and OpenFiler (or FreeNas) ontop of that. I don't need any drive redudancy (there's an attached tape controller), but I'd like to be able to pop in a new drive and expand it like you'd be able to do with LVM. Is this possible?

I'm involved in a dispute about whose responsible for data. The basics: A RAID array in a small company's production server died. Under extreme pressure, the technician reconfigured the array, losing data in the process. The customer assured the tech the data was backed up. It wasn't. Now the customer says the tech should have checked the backup tapes before doing anything. Who is responsible for the data repair?
