I recently purchased a Nikon D5000 DSLR, and while I'd like to think that I have a bit of a photographer's eye, I really haven't used anything beyond a point-and-shoot for the last few years. Any advice or resources that people have (beyond reading the manual) to improve my skills would be awesome. [more inside]

Considering freelance event photography as a sideline. The kind where you take the photos, and then sell them later online. Any advice - including talking me out of this - is appreciated. [more inside]

I remember a website from a few years ago that showed three different still photography scenes that morphed into one another, showing that scene over the course of 24 hours. These scenes had accompanying recordings of the surroundings. If I remember correctly, the scenes were a park, outside a bus station or some kind of intersection, and a quiet canal in Venice.
I would like to find this site again. Any help?

Do you remember a global online photo project where individuals took pictures of themselves in their room? If it's still out there, I need to find it, as well as other examples of collaborative, possibly community-building blog-style photo sites that aren't Flickr. [more inside]

Help me find this website, if it still exists. A few years ago I ran acroos s beautiful site that had either a week by week or month by month imagery of a fetus in utero, and described what was going on as it grew. The imagery took up the whole page and was black and white. It was really breathtaking.

I'm looking for a content management system /w "shop" functionality to post a few hundred pictures that can be ordered and paid for via paypal. Requirements are that the site can be set up in different categories that can have a different theme or skin applied to.
I've tried Mambo /w PHP-SHOP but that doesn't allow for great enough theme differences for the categories. Gallery and it's look-alikes don't really meet the needs because an ordering part of it is really needed.
Any suggestions? I found something that might meet the needs but it's in java. Perl or PHP would be best, ASP, ruby or python would work as well.

Long ago, I recall seeing a link (maybe on MeFi, but I can't find it) for a website that displayed some pretty impressive technology used to bring out the detail from shadows in photographs. I seem to recall that there was an online version that you could use for testing (upload your photo and it would lighten the shadow areas). Does anyone remember this, and if so, do you know the URL?
