Are there cheap alternatives for the large and elaborate "dry boxes" I see listed for use as dehumidified storage cabinets for lenses and other camera gear?
I've built up a little collection, live where the summer humidity is often high, and do not run my AC 24/7.
My first thought is that this is basically an airtight box with a bunch of dessicant inside. Can't really be that simple, though.

I have: A great camera (Nikon D700), a great printer (Epson 3800), a good eye for urban travel photos (a recent local gallery showing). I don't have: A decent website or any pictures on Flickr, a photography network of any kind.
My objective is to supplement my current income with income from photography. What's my next step?

Hello all,
I am having trouble find a place that rents out digital cameras.
I am looking to either rent a Nikon D50, D70, or D100 or possibly, a Canon Digital Rebel XT. (Renting time-frame, 2-3 days.) I am wondering if anyone had any experience with renting high-end digital cams such as these and which place I should trust. I called up a couple of places where I live (Boston, MASS) and none of them offered this.

two photography questions in one:
a. Does the Bronica ETRC have a double-exposure button/lever? If so, how do I use it? I know the ETRS does, but I can't seem to find one on my ETRC.
b. How can I take long time exposures on my Canon Powershot S70? I bought this because I wanted a lot of manual control, and I know it doesn't have a bulb setting, but is there a way to set really long (i.e., 60 second plus) exposures for tripod/night landscapes?

I own a digital point-and-shoot camera, and was looking to upgrade to a "nicer" camera for some more ambitious photography. But I was wondering if it makes sense to spend a lot on a digital camera, as it seemingly will be a bit archaic, if not outright obsolete, in a few years. E.g., old Leicas or even manual Nikons still fetch fair amounts on Ebay, while digital cameras a few years old sell for a fraction of their original value. I know digital cameras are supposed to making analog obsolete, but I'm just wondering about the obsolescence factor of digital. In other words, should I buy the new digital Leica or a vintage analog Leica? Any thoughts?

I while back I got some good recommendations on lenses to use for documentary style photography. Now I come to the Green looking for insight on color film. I'm shooting with a Nikon FM2 and a Canon Rebel 2000. The work is for a grad thesis film, mostly daytime with some scenes right after sundown.

I have a Canon Powershot s50 digital camera which I dearly love. Is it possible to take infrared shots with it? I had a infrared filter for my old nikon fm slr, which, when used with infrared film, worked very well. I assume there must be some way to mount the same kind of filter on the digital camera, but will the sensor pick up the resultant filtered infrared image?

I just acquired an old Minolta 16 along with two rolls of B&W film. The film was in a sealed container with the expiration date marked May '78. Do I have any chance of getting workable pictures out of this thing? And is there something (longer exposure, or shorter?) one can do to compensate for expired film?

Digital cameras do tons of photo manipulation in-camera, before you ever upload it. Knowing this, I'd like to configure my camera to do as much in-camera as possible, so that I don't have to spend as much time photoshopping (contrast, sharpening, etc.) afterward. Any recommendations on settings I could use, or resources that would help me determine what settings make for the "best" photos? (I have a Nikon CP4500, if it helps.)

I'm thinking about getting into photography - something I have always wanted to do, but never seemed to have the time to fit it in. I would like to go "manual" - anyone have any suggestions on what camera I should try and find? I would like to have a big clunky metal manual monster that I can learn the basics on..... There are lots of sites out there claiming that this camera is the best, or this camera is the best, or this camera.... you know. What do you suggest?
