DigitalCameraFilter: I am trying to find a small, discreet point-n-shoot camera that I can use on the subway to take pictures of my fellow-passengers (think Walker Evans - Many Are Called). Trying to find something that is: small (fits in pocket), quiet, sharp, can disable the rear lcd, and has minimal shutter lag. Good high-iso performance also a plus. Zoom not necessary. [more inside]

I have never owned a digital camera, and am finally ready to get one. I am in love with PowerShots. Except though I'm new and clueless about photography now, I would eventually like to not be and I've heard the lack of zoom in compact cameras will become a problem. So are there any compact cameras out there with sufficient zoom function? [more inside]

I just managed to screw up the lens on my Canon D400 and was hoping someone could give me some advice on how much it is likely to cost to fix? Basically, the focus seems to be slightly twisted and appears to come off it's 'thread'. I can turn the lens to focus but the action is stiff and jams rather than pulling the lens back towards the camera.
Obviously, I am no expert, but is it likely that the lens can be fixed, or am I looking at throwing down money that I don't have on buying a new one?
Thanks in advance!

Recommendations for a good pocket-friendly digital camera? I'm finally ready to replace the Canon Power Shot S200 that was pinched by robbers a few years ago with a similar sized but updated camera. Looking for something approximately the size of a pack of cigarettes or smaller. Budget is in the $250-$300 range. [more inside]

Help me take better screenshots on my plasma. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01, and probably my settings are bad. Screenshots are either too noisy (at high ISO ratings) or blurry (100 ISO). Exposure is often whack. I see great screenshots online, taken on big LCD or plasma. How do they do that? Thanks!

What is the best small digital camera Du Jour? I know this has been asked before, but 6 months can make a big difference for these sort of things.
What I'm looking for is a smallish, light digital camera with a big viewfinder, that takes really good pictures. That isn't too much to ask is it? [more inside]

If a digital camera says it can handle USB 2.0, does that mean it won't work in a USB 1.0 port? I'm in the market for a digital camera, and have been looking at the Canon PowerShot series, namely the A620, SD450, and SD600. All of these have USB 2.0 listed as the interface. However, my 800mhz G4 Powerbook has USB 1.0. Does this mean those cameras won't play nice with my laptop?

I have noticed (and other people have commented that they have seen this too) that when I take pictures with my Nikon D70 I tend to get what seems to be a haze or fuzziness on the pictures. They are still crisp but have a diffused light feeling to them. I have tried several lenses as well as removing my uv filter and nothing seems to help. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It is very frustrating… [more inside]

ACK! I accidentally deleted a picture from my digital camera's memory card! The cam is newish and I'm not quite used to it yet; I mis-pressed a button while reviewing, and now I've lost an important, once-in-a-lifetime shot. Is there a way, ANY way for me to recover the accidentally deleted photo? Please please please tell me it's not impossible. Or at least tell me why it is. *tears hair out*
