Hi,
I will be living in Mumbai for 11 weeks next summer. I have an unlocked iPhone 3G. What is my best bet in terms of carrier and plan for the cheapest and most reliable data access? I plan to do local calls over the cell phone voice network and international calls via Skype on the iPhone.
Thanks in advance!

I'm thinking of switching phone services, as I often do. It's such a hassle to keep porting phone numbers (LNP), or, actually switching phone numbers.
My particular situation is that I have two phone numbers of Vonage, and one on my iPhone - I want to keep the iPhone but dump Vonage while keeping the numbers - I want to try Skype, but they don't let you port phone numbers in. What's a cheap way to keep these phone numbers? More specifically, I'm curious about the following:

VoIP over EVDO. If you've tried it (especially on Sprint's Rev A EVDO), how do you like it? I'd be using Skype, using it rarely, and only using it during calls -- not leaving it idling and using bandwidth. (With my current Sprint phone-as-modem setup on 1xRTT, I average 400-600ms pings -- i.e., too much latency for VoIP even if I had enough bandwidth. But on Sprint's now active EVDO Rev A, they claim latency of 100-150ms and upstream averaging 300-400k.) Yes, I know EVDO is not in the TOS. And I connect primarily from NYC in strong-signal areas.

I've been 'administering' my office's Avaya IP Office phone system for about a year and a half. I say 'administering' because I have no idea what I'm doing. I find the system unruly and it's driving me nuts! I'm searching for anyone who is familiar with IP Office and can talk to me about some issues like the naive pseudo-administrator I am. [more inside]

I just got screwed by a VOIP company. After a month of trying to reinstate a virtual number they accidently deleted, they’ve now confessed that they assigned it to someone else. I asked “What can you do to make this right”, and all they said was “we can give you a new phone number”. What official-type people can I complain to so I can get “The Rage” out of my system?

Is there a VOIP service like Vonage that lets you choose your own phone number (not just the area code?) Vonage does not currently support such "vanity numbers." Note I am not trying to move a current phone number over but create a new one from scratch if it is available.
