Assuming that I am going to be pursuing a PhD in mathematical sociology, applied mathematics, or organizational analysis with no background in higher math with only the resources to take a few classes at the local college how do I go about it?

Where do i find some of the top professors and researchers (in universities) doing Micro-Sociology (interaction or social mechanism based). This is the level of research that I wish to focus my research on, I just cant seem to find the researchers using that level of analysis. Also, are there some seminal texts in the micro sociology fields.

I am applying to (social psychology/Sociology) PhD programs this upcoming fall semester (5 months away). I know which programs (see: professors) I want to work with and I would like to present a writing sample that shows my interests and helps to make up for some of my academic shortcomings.
