I moved back to Boston a bit over a year ago. previously I was living in the suburbs in a southeastern city and had a really great pet sitter: she would come to the house to care for my pets daily when I travelled.
I have had trouble finding a similar person here. I have had a few short work-related trips, for which my building doorman sufficed. When I took a longer personal vacation, I used yelp to find a pet sitter. The person I chose was recommended but REALLY did not measure up. (ie did not show up at all:please memail me if you want who never to use).
I am looking for someone who will come to my home daily to feed/water my 2 cats. I live in Fort Point (so parking can be a challenge).
Anyone have suggestions? (note; I prefer to leave my cats in situ as vs boarding them)

My veterinarian offers HomeAgain pet microchips. The company wants a $17.99 per year fee. I find that there is also a site:
RFID-USA that offers registration at a one-time expense and no yearly maintenance fee. Is this a good option in lieu of the HomeAgain continuing yearly fee.

Does anyone have recommendations for pet sitters/cat sitters that you liked in the Toronto area? I have the opportunity to go away for July & August to my parents cottage on Prince Edward Island but to make that happen I'll need to arrange for someone to feed my two cats (

Bentley) while I'm away.

We just had a large tree cut down in our yard.
We decided to leave a large portion of the trunk lying horizontally on the ground in an area where we generally throw leaves and prunings.
One of our dogs is now barking nonstop at this large trunk. He's obviously scared and upset.
Any suggestions on how to calm him down?

I just found what looks like mosquito larvae in my cat's water bowl. I use one of those
automatic waterers where there is a gallon or so of water in a upside down container, feeding a small bowl of perhaps 2 cup capacity. In the large upside down container, there was actually one live, flying mosquito. In the small bowl that my cat actually drinks from, there were approximately a dozen apparent larvae, about 1/4" to 1/3" in length.
Should I be concerned for my pet's health at all? I am not sure how long they were in there, but I changed the water for fresh immediately.

Recently I got a dog. He's doing great, I'm doing great, it's been nearly 3 months since I got him from the shelter. Problem: He's meeting my brother and his kids, in a few weeks (family reunion weekend), and my brother has a strong fear, maybe even a phobia of dogs. What can I do to put him at ease, navigate the situation and help everyone get through this unscathed?

Can pets really ease depression? My husband is suffering from work-related depression at the moment, he is seeing a therapist for this. When we were discussing getting a pet, we thought it would be best to ask the therapist before going ahead with the idea. The therapist's answer was: if you want one, get one. The problem is that we do not know if it is a good idea or not.
