I'm shopping for an HDTV, and might have lucked into an excellent deal on a Panasonic TH-50PF30U "digital signage display". Help me understand the difference between a consumer plasma HDTV and a digital signage
plasma HDTV, because this is the first time I've heard of the latter. [more inside]

I would like to buy a home entertainment system. I would like to listen to music, watch television, movies, and play videogames. I would like to have Netflix. I would like to stream media from my network or the cloud. I want great sound but I am not an audiophile, although I am not averse to spending a lot on speakers. I do not want to spend more than 8 hours doing research. I will spend up to $2500-$3000. How do I attack this problem? Can you recommend specific TV's, receivers, speakers, or stuff like a Roku box? Can you recommend sites that provide easy to understand, objective reviews of equipment like TelevisionInfo
? I do not want to hit the forums if I don't have to. Can you recommend specific configurations of equipment or point me to sites that supply this information. I feel like if I don't get pointed in the right direction, I am going to over analyze this and spend far too much time that I don't have. I just want a rocking home entertainment solution for my family that I won't want to upgrade a week later.

My current bedroom TV has decided it prefers to only do sound now. Not a big deal-it is old and was a hand-me-down. But, holymajoly, this TV buying thing is WAY more complicated than "I need a TV. OK, that one." [more inside]

I want to make sculpture with repurposed sheet steel, say 10 to 20 gauge. Probably from old cars, which is on the thin end of that spectrum, but I'd like a little leeway. Tired of waiting for my friend's friend to loan me a plasma cutter, so I'm (gulp) shopping. Do I need the $1400 Powermax 30
or will I be satisfied with the RAMSOND CUT50DY on sale for $500
? The guy at the shop I called recommended the $1400 Miller Spectrum 375 X-Treme
, which is about when I realized I'm in over my head. What about the $800 Hobart Airforce 500534 250ci
, which, unlike the others, includes a built in air compressor? I'm not rich, and this is not for heavy industrial use, but I'd very much like something that works and works well on 120v current. I may well be using this on the sidewalk in front of my apartment, so I'd like it to be relatively portable. Also I'd rather it didn't kill me or anyone else. Merci bien!

Why does white on a TV screen cause audible buzzing noise?
It's obvious more on an all-white screen, but even small amounts like captions. It seems like it's been this way for decades, through CRT and on to plasma HDTV screens. [more inside]

I'm about to buy a Panasonic TC-P42U2 plasma flat-panel TV (Amazon
) As you can see, buying from Newegg will cost me $100 more than buying from Amazon, yet I'm tempted to do just that since Newegg has an unimpeachable customer service record. Am I crazy? [more inside]

Looking for a good flatscreen TV, 42" or thereabouts... and white. I haven't been able to find anything that size that isn't in industry-standard black. Any suggestions?

New place has a lovely attic, finished but no AC up there. We're planning on having the windows open with fans in them to keep the air moving and bearable. Would it be a bad idea to have a TV (plasma) up there in the humid southeastern Missouri summer? [more inside]

Having watched Thunderbolts of the Gods

Best HDMI switcher out there? (plasma TV only has one port)
I'd like at least three, maybe four ports. Remote control not really necessary, I'd like to have maximum image quality though and I can spend, within reason, to obtain it. I see they're all between 50 and 100 dollars, maybe there are some known lemons out there? Maybe there's a kickass brand? Thanks.

My wife wants to get a plasma/LCD TV and mount it over the fireplace. That just seems way too high to watch comfortably, though. Does anyone have any experience with a TV mounted that high? Will the kids be able to watch it if they're sitting on the floor? Does angling it help?

LCD - PLASMA TV FILTER: I am in the market for a Flat Screen HDTV. I would LIKE to stay at 1000 bucks or below (I could probably move up to 1300 if the extra cash brought in a big leap in quality). What is the best option on the market for a 40+ inch LCD or Plasma TV for around 1000 bucks? [more inside]

We have 50" plasma display in our waiting room. It displays television (via plain old cable.) I want to split it into sections - left 1/3, right 2/3 and bottom crawl. I want to show the TV feed in the right 2/3 and put marketing information in the remaining space. How do I get there from here??
Bonus points for Linux!

Help me take better screenshots on my plasma. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01, and probably my settings are bad. Screenshots are either too noisy (at high ISO ratings) or blurry (100 ISO). Exposure is often whack. I see great screenshots online, taken on big LCD or plasma. How do they do that? Thanks!
