Our TV, a stately Sony Trinitron that's served us since 1999, is dying. We need a new 42 inch-ish TV. I have no idea what to look for in this new flat/plasma/HD market. All I want to avoid is that godawful HD thing where old movies look like cheap soap operas and everything is too sharp and flat. No interest in a smart TV or 3D or anything like that. What should I buy to make our media diet of old movies and Netflix TV shows look the best?
i live in China and I am AB negative, a bloodtype that is rare here. A while back I required hospitalization and the staff implored me to come back and donate blood once I recovered. My understanding is that it's actually my plasma that is desirable. Is this true? And how much should I, a 6"2 male, agree to give? Is there anything else to watch out for?
Hello! I'm building a miniature and I'd like to incorporate some object source lighting for the first time. However, I'm having some trouble visualizing where the light would go. I'm wondering if you can help. [more inside]

So I recently moved to San Mateo, CA from Chicago, hurray! Pretty much everything has been great and the move quite smooth. What sucks is that in the move my beloved Panasonic ST60 60 inch was broken, likely during the drive out here. I had moved who packed it up and delivered it to UPack, then moved who unloaded it from there and moved it into my house. Sadly it didn't survive. Now I need to start looking or thinking about a replacement BUT Panasonic stopped making plasma's altogether and I wasn't expecting to have to buy a TV again so soon. What should my next TV be? I'm shopping for an HDTV, and might have lucked into an excellent deal on a Panasonic TH-50PF30U "digital signage display". Help me understand the difference between a consumer plasma HDTV and a digital signage plasma HDTV, because this is the first time I've heard of the latter. [more inside]
I would like to buy a home entertainment system. I would like to listen to music, watch television, movies, and play videogames. I would like to have Netflix. I would like to stream media from my network or the cloud. I want great sound but I am not an audiophile, although I am not averse to spending a lot on speakers. I do not want to spend more than 8 hours doing research. I will spend up to $2500-$3000. How do I attack this problem? Can you recommend specific TV's, receivers, speakers, or stuff like a Roku box? Can you recommend sites that provide easy to understand, objective reviews of equipment like TelevisionInfo? I do not want to hit the forums if I don't have to. Can you recommend specific configurations of equipment or point me to sites that supply this information. I feel like if I don't get pointed in the right direction, I am going to over analyze this and spend far too much time that I don't have. I just want a rocking home entertainment solution for my family that I won't want to upgrade a week later.
My current bedroom TV has decided it prefers to only do sound now. Not a big deal-it is old and was a hand-me-down. But, holymajoly, this TV buying thing is WAY more complicated than "I need a TV. OK, that one." [more inside]
I want to make sculpture with repurposed sheet steel, say 10 to 20 gauge. Probably from old cars, which is on the thin end of that spectrum, but I'd like a little leeway. Tired of waiting for my friend's friend to loan me a plasma cutter, so I'm (gulp) shopping. Do I need the $1400 Powermax 30 or will I be satisfied with the RAMSOND CUT50DY on sale for $500? The guy at the shop I called recommended the $1400 Miller Spectrum 375 X-Treme, which is about when I realized I'm in over my head. What about the $800 Hobart Airforce 500534 250ci, which, unlike the others, includes a built in air compressor? I'm not rich, and this is not for heavy industrial use, but I'd very much like something that works and works well on 120v current. I may well be using this on the sidewalk in front of my apartment, so I'd like it to be relatively portable. Also I'd rather it didn't kill me or anyone else. Merci bien!
Why does white on a TV screen cause audible buzzing noise? It's obvious more on an all-white screen, but even small amounts like captions. It seems like it's been this way for decades, through CRT and on to plasma HDTV screens. [more inside]
I'm about to buy a Panasonic TC-P42U2 plasma flat-panel TV (Amazon, Newegg) As you can see, buying from Newegg will cost me $100 more than buying from Amazon, yet I'm tempted to do just that since Newegg has an unimpeachable customer service record. Am I crazy? [more inside]

Best HDMI switcher out there? (plasma TV only has one port) I'd like at least three, maybe four ports. Remote control not really necessary, I'd like to have maximum image quality though and I can spend, within reason, to obtain it. I see they're all between 50 and 100 dollars, maybe there are some known lemons out there? Maybe there's a kickass brand? Thanks.

LCD - PLASMA TV FILTER: I am in the market for a Flat Screen HDTV. I would LIKE to stay at 1000 bucks or below (I could probably move up to 1300 if the extra cash brought in a big leap in quality).
