I have a PHP script that I'm monitoring with New Relic. This doesn't happen often, the average is still 400ms for the page but sometimes the script takes over 60 seconds. But in new relic the delay appears to be happening after all the code has run. [more inside]

What I'd like to do is crawl a list of 5000 to maybe 10,000 max URLs on a weekly basis, searching for a couple of specific terms. I don't see a way to set that up with Google Custom Search. I have access to server space and am comfortable enough with PHP or Python to configure a dB and script if needed. There are countless options out there. Anybody have specific experience to point me in the right direction?

I work in a medical clinic with a few other doctors, and we're trying to come up with a way to centralize our "favourites" when it comes to referrals -- which specialists do we usually refer to, where can patients go for physiotherapy, etc. I'm trying to find a simple way to implement this but so far not having a lot of success. I have a piece of web software in mind which I would like to have created - it's your standard PHP/MySQL webapp, really, but there are probably nifty new technologies which could be used instead of the aforementioned combo. [more inside]
Does anyone know if there exists a website where you can insert a PHP code snippet which pulls through content you have created on a CMS? I am having a problem with my website, which is entirely run in Wordpress. I have WP set up to use a static home page. I followed the directions for creating a homepage and a page for posts to appear on. But if you look at the fluid page in question, for some reason the entire page is duplicated? I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on there, I hope someone here can.

I've been working on making a mirror of a site that we're using for another project. The original site is working fine, but a few of the custom tweaks that the former webmaster made aren't carrying over. One of these is a box on the post creation screen that allows / disallows others to remix (pictured at the link) your work. We're working off of a BuddyPress framework. Any ideas about how to find the template file that's calling this? More details inside... [more inside]
I want to use a seemingly simple MySQL/PHP open source...thing called OpenFuego and have no idea what I'm doing. Can someone take a look at this and tell me what I need to get it up and running? [more inside]
If I've upgraded PHP on my Mac, should I now avoid all OS X Updates? I'm hosting a website on a Mac mini in a datacenter, and some of my software required a newer version of PHP than what's included out-of-the-box in OS X Mountain Lion. I keep getting the notification saying system updates are ready, and restart to install. But I'm scared it's going to overwrite my PHP upgrades and break everything. And it took me an insanely long time to get the PHP upgrade to work properly and play nicely with OS X Server.

I'm trying to hire a full time coder for my business. I build, maintain, and remodel my own portfolio of websites (PHP, JS, WP, HTML, CSS, MySQL, etc). All candidates will be US-Based. $6000/mo budget cap. [more inside]
I didn't ask for this! My employer is moving me to a position that will require a working knowledge of PHP development, but my skills are nowhere near up to snuff. "You learn quick, just pick it up" they say! I don't know where they got the idea that I DO in fact learn quickly, but I guess now I have to! So what can a guy like me do to pick up at least a passable proficiency relatively quickly? I can put in the hours, but I would rather put in the hours efficiently, if you know what I mean.
I'm trying to use the php imap_search function to collect all of the emails I receive from my business's fulfillment company on a given day. I understand the basic concept of oAuth, but I don't understand how to implement it, from a line-by-line standpoint. I'm looking for a basic walkthrough of how to leverage oAuth to authenticate a PHP-powered application to access a user's data. I'd highly prefer the walk-through not explain how to use oAuth to work with any particular service (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, FitBit), but rather that it keep the walkthrough pretty vanilla. I would classify myself as being an intermediate PHP developer. Does such a walkthrough exist?

I have a Buddypress site set up with all of my contributors set up as Authors. This has worked well, up until this point, where the users want to make groups. However, the Author role doesn't have permission to create groups. I've used several role modifying plugins to try to switch it on, but none of the plugins have this option available. The current plugin I'm using for role moderation (called 'Members') has an option to add in new Wordpress actions to allow/disallow, but I'm not sure what this would be called. Further data about installed plugins, versions, etc. available upon request. For the moment let's say that simply changing all user's roles to something else isn't an option.
So more and more I'm working with PHP. I can hack my way through most tasks using logic and reference material but I think it might be time to build a better base of understanding. [more inside]
I have an array which has listing information for products on a website. The products fit into two categories (call them 'bits' and 'bobs') I need to sort the array so that it goes from a completely mixed up and randomized list to: bit, bit, bit, bit, bit, bit, bob, bob, bob, bob, bob, bob, bit, bit, bit, bit, bit, bit And so on, basically reorganize the array so that the list is in alternating groups of six Array structure is basically a numbered array of keyed arrays, like so: Array ( => Array ( [id] => 39549 [title] => Product Name [author] => Author Name [price] => 7.66 [type] => bit ) => Array ( [id] => 39549 [title] => Product Name [author] => Author Name [price] => 9.66 [type] => bob ) )
I would like advice on creating a dynamic graphing website to display clinical data on a intranet website to better aide clinicians. What my superiors are seeking is a "Data Mall." In this game, you roll a number of six-sided dice to get a total. The total is either the highest single die result, or the sum of any multiples rolled, whichever is higher. For example: If I roll three dice and get a 3, 4, and 6, my total is 6. But if I roll a 4, 4, and 6, my total is 8, the sum of the two 4s. What I want to find out is the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation of the possible totals given N dice. How might I create a simple script to compute this? [more inside]
