What I have: two older PCs.
What I want to do: run some combination of Bugzilla, Subversion, MySQL,
Trac and a few other apps that I'm testing from time to time.
What's the best way to set this all up in terms of what goes on which box? Also, any general advice or warnings on conflicts or problems I may come across would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to the wonderful world of DVDs, and am at a bit of a loss. A friend recently installed a PD dual format drive on my Win2000 machine, and successfully burned a test disc. However, when I go to play a purchased DVD, I receive an error message stating that I don't have a compatible encoder installed. I could choose and install one, but quite frankly, I'd be picking one at random. Help me out and suggest a good one? If more system info is needed, please just let me know...

Ancient mac to modern PC. After two years using ClarisWorks and Quark XPress to do all my work on a Mac running OS 8.6, I'm changing jobs. I want to burn several hundred documents to CDs to bring with me. Is there a way to automatically add file extensions so my PC knows what it's looking at? Can I expect to open ClarisWorks 5.0 documents anywhere but on an ancient Mac anyhow?

I was going to post in my
original posts regarding my stupid HP computer but they have been archived. Has anybody ever heard of a computer having "too much" power? We resolved the problem to a power supply issue but now I'm being told that the new
power supply I purchased was too much for the motherboard.
True? False? Wishful thinking?

HELP, I'm stuck in meatspace. My home PC, on start-up,
1. Goes to the "Windows was not properly shut down" type screen...
2. ...where it gives me the choices of "Last Known Good Configuration" or "Start Windows Normally" etc, then...
3. ...no matter what choice I make, it eventually gives me a flash of blue screen with white print that is gone too quickly to read but starts with "STOP" and contains the word "registry."
4. Then it starts over at step 1 above. Repeat again and again.
5. Am I screwed?

After trying hard to solve
this problem, I gave up, and went out and bought another wireless adaptor for my 2nd PC. I now have both PCs connected to the wireless router, but transfer speeds between the two are a lot slower. Is it possible for me to use an ethernet connection for transferring stuff between these two PCs, and the separate wireless connections for everything else?

My s.o. needs help with a technical problem on his home PC: "I cannot open any eBay page on my Internet Explorer. This just started last night. I can open all other internet pages, just none related to eBay. Is there a virus that specifically prevents people from opening eBay pages? This is really frustrating, I have run virus and spyware checks and found nothing, but I cannot think of anything else that could prevent access to a certain domain. Please help."
Anybody got any ideas (besides, obviously, switching to a Mac)?

I put my old 10gb laptop hdd in a USB enclosure and bought a USB 2.0 pcmcia card. The speed is good enough that I would like to use the drive as a scratch disk for various programs I work with, but primarily Adobe Photoshop. Problem is, PS won't list it as an option in the scratch disks settings menu. It only lists the startup disk and the C drive, which are the same drive. How can I trick my computer into treating the external drive as an internal not-plug'n'play, regular old drive? Or just trick Photoshop. (Ver. 7, btw, and on a PC) Thanks.

I use a whole bunch of PC's - three mainly, my laptop at work, and a desktop and laptop at home...I'd like to find a way of keeping my favorites synchronised on all three OR keeping them all in one place on the web and being able to access them...oh, and I'd like the solution to be 'free' and look cool...(is there an easy way to harvest the 500 favorites on my work laptop - and turn them into a web page?)
I use IE6 on all of my PC's....but some web based solution would allow me to access all my links from other machines/browsers.

I was thinking of getting into video editing and production. I want to do it on the PC because I can get the equipment cheaper, and I want to do it at minimal cost but professional quality. I am looking at Adobe Premiere for video editing. My biggest question, though, is what camera should I get? I was looking at the Canon XL1S, but I also saw an ad in Wired for a JVC GR-HD1... which is better and why? Or is there another alternative camera I should get?
