I've very recently (ie yesterday) got myself a brand new desktop PC! I would really like your advice on the best ways to keep it running at its best, protected from the nasty things that lurk on the internet (virii, malware, spyware etc) and set up to get the most out of our blossoming relationship... The machine runs on Windows 8. [more inside]

We have some never-on-a-network PCs set up in a lab at work; all are running Windows Vista. We need a good way to keep up-to-date antivirus software on them without relying on an internet connection. [more inside]

My PC is running slow. So I went to ProcessLibrary.com to check the programs running in task manager. I've also got Malwarebytes and AVG Anti-Virus running. But these programs aren't impenetrable. Consequently, I've learned there are many legitimate programs that have double identities. [more inside]
After 10 years of being blasé about downloading dodgy stuff from wherever I pleased, I've just messed up my computer in a single mouse click. It won't start up now, even in safe mode. How can I fix this? [more inside]
I'm about to receive a desktop computer (Windows 7 Pro) that I am going to use *solely* for playing an online game. Do I need any additional security or virus protection programs aside from what comes with Windows 7? [more inside]
I have a personal Wordpress website/blog ('www.timpollard.com') but the other day got an email from someone I know telling me that my site appeared to have a virus on it (a redirection to one of those appalling 'buy our virus killer' sites). I checked myself and couldn't see an issue but today, using a different PC if I typed the URL diredtly I could go there straight away but if I Google-searched 'timpollard' and then clicked in the 'timpollard.com link it displayed the message 'This site has been reported unsafe' as it was trying to access an entirely different site: 'antivirus-wizard-a1.c*m'. Help, what's happening - and how can I fix it, please?
Help! I have a virus and I don't know how to fix it when I can't even surf the web! [more inside]
I've been wondering if it is possible to apply the same solution to the never-ending problem of Windows corruption (and the resulting degraded performance) that data centers use. As I understand it, Windows is booted over the network, so what happens to the local hard drive does not matter. Is there a way of doing the same thing to a home PC? Can you make a hard drive "read-only" after putting a bootable Windows image on it, and then use a seperate hard drive for data storage? I really detest the solution that MS sponsors (virus protection/firewall software) because it is just another thing that you have to buy which supports it's business partners. Any other ideas?

Nasty, sticky virus that won't go away! The virus scan says it is called 'win.32.Agent.pz' and we've thrown everything we've got at it to get rid of it - Spybot (also in safe mode) and ESET - and it won't go away. Help! [more inside]

Last night I was Googling on my laptop when I started getting non-expected results. The same spammy sites kept getting returned, even when different search terms were used. Repeated virus scans turned up nothing. The same search on my work terminal returns what I expected so I know it's my laptop. ? [more inside]
My mother's computer has picked up a persistant trojan virus. She's over 1,000 miles away so I can't work on her PC myself, so I've been talking her through things on the phone. AVG Free 7.0 detects the virus and claims to remove it, but it always comes back the next time she scans. The only thing she can tell me about the virus is that AVG removes a file with a mixture of English and Cyrillic letters in it. Any idea how I can help her slay this thing once and for all?
