I have an older Gateway PC acting as my media center/file server. I have it hooked up to a 42" 720p Samsung Plasma TV via VGA from the on-board connection on the PC. As such, the resolution is not very good: 1024x768 and the picture doesn't really fit on the screen. Can you recommend a cheap video card (under $50) that will let me connect via HDMI and show things at a decent resolution without stretching or cropping the picture? No gaming, just playing video files.

Catalog application: I'm looking for a lite or open source app, to Catalog all files, folders & media on my PC & Mac ,that can be saved in pdf. I can search , store on my PCs and Macs,so that when I create a backup volume, I can know what is on it.
I have tried a few lite and open source apps, but dislike ones I tried ( PixDiskat 1.08 ,Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9, MediaMonkey because it conflicts with itunes)

I've just successfully installed Win7 onto an older but servicable PC in order to use it as a streaming media player in another room. Problem is that although it can
see all of the shared files, folders and drives on my main machine it keeps telling me I don't have the correct permissions whenever I click on them - but permissions are set to 'Everyone' and another machine (a netbook) I do the same thing with can see and play everything perfectly... can anyone offer any help or suggestions please, I'm at my wit's end! Thanks in advance!

Help me build my perfect home media machine. It must play blu-ray discs, browse the web, and stream HD video from internet sources. I have no interest in video games, and little interest in cable TV. Is this something I can buy? If this is something I must build myself, what kind of computing muscle will I need?

I've got a Windows Media Center edition PC hooked up to my television using an S-video cable so that I can play DIVX files, and I'm getting my wallpaper showing up on the television... and nothing else. The main monitor still shows all my apps, however. What gives?!

Does anybody have any experience with the relatively new MediaREADY 5000 from Video without Boundaries. Seems to be cheaper than XP Media Centers. But appears to have low storage. The URL is http://www.vwbinc.com/products.html
