Need some advice please.
I tried to install a new Power supply in my 2 year Old Dell PC in anticipation of installing a new Hi Spec Graphics card. Did all the necessary connections (I think) except connecting up the Sata cable to the Optical Disc drive (It wouldn't reach, I'll come to that in a minute).
Powered it up, nothing. I noticed a light came on, on the motherboard (so It's getting power right??)
Took out the power supply, refitted the old one and it all works.
Questions -
1.Does not attaching the Sata cable to the optical drive matter??
2.Can I buy a Sata cable extension??
3.Is the light (showing on the motherboard) indicative of the Power supply working??
4,Is it possible that the new power supply is not functioning???
5.Is there something really obvious I'm missing??
Any help advice would be gratefully accepted, thanks

I have a personal Wordpress website/blog ('www.timpollard.com') but the other day got an email from someone I know telling me that my site appeared to have a virus on it (a redirection to one of those appalling 'buy our virus killer' sites). I checked myself and couldn't see an issue but today, using a different PC if I typed the URL diredtly I could go there straight away but if I Google-searched 'timpollard' and then clicked in the 'timpollard.com link it displayed the message
'This site has been reported unsafe' as it was trying to access an entirely different site: 'antivirus-wizard-a1.c*m'. Help, what's happening - and how can I fix it, please?

I have an external usb drive running off my Windows 7 computer. It keeps switching back to Read-Only, so when I try to send files to it, it merely appends a file and adds a number to its name, instead of re-writing the entire file. I've tried to change it back, but it does not stay changed. The minute I refresh the page, the read-only status comes back! Is there some setting I'm missing? Is there something in Windows 7 that's causing this to happen?

MS Excel Problem: CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP?
I am a very average PC user having unable to open spreadsheets. I borrowed a copy of MS Office Professional from a friend, but it did not install Excel properly. I no longer have access to those installation CDs. Whenever I try to open a spreadsheet, it prompts me for the CD's. So I bought Excel 97, installed it fine, but still when I try o open a spreadsheet it automatically tries to open it with the XP Professional version... How so I get around this to just use the Excel 97 version now on my computer??

My brother is going away to college this upcoming fall, and for a high school graduation present, my mom is getting him a laptop to take with him. He is interested in trying a Mac. We are both life-long PC users. I am the most technologically-inclined in my family. My brother knows the basics and has no trouble with them, but anything more is my job.
