My 19 yr old son has decided to drop out of college after this semester to find himself. The problem is he is without a plan and I believe very depressed. He has been to a therapist in the past and has an appt to see the therapist next week. In the meantime he has called us sometimes crying and saying he doesn’t understand why he is in college. snowflake inside [more inside]

My PC has about 1.5TB of HD memory, and about 75% of it is free. And 2GB more of RAM was recently installed, increasing total RAM to about 6GB. But I am discovering that has little effect on why a program would display an out of memory message. I access the program, which is a website builder, from my desktop. Each time the program crashes, I find changes to work most recently done. And now, I am afraid to continue working on one of the saved versions because of the possibility of more crashes. I tried the Microsoft Fix It for OOM errors, but it didn't seem to help. And I've been exchanging messages with Serif, but the answers haven't been as helpful as I've hoped.
Why is this happening and what, if anything, can I do to find out what is stealing the memory and stop it?

My brother and I are searching for a loved childhood book. He found it on a rare book website, paid for a copy, and never heard from the seller again. We're more interested in finding the book than tracking down the bum. The problem is, we've forgotten the author, and are uncertain about the actual title.
It's about a boy who wants a dog, and goes to sleep (I think the night before his birthday) and has a hallucinogenic dream about a giant dog and stairways to the sky and a giant door with an inscription on it. When he wakes up, there is a real puppy waiting for him, I think as his birthday present.
I remember the cover was green. It was an oversize picture book. I think the title was "The Wishing Tree" but I can't find the book under that title anywhere. I read it in the mid-60's.
Thank you for your help!

I got a book published a couple of years ago. I love being able to give copies to people once in a a while. I expect I'd like to be able to keep doing this for many years to come. Thus far, I just order new books as I need them. But is it likely that at some point it'll no longer be possible to order more copies? Should I be stocking up on the book? How to other authors out there handle this? I'd rather not have to keep a million copies around if I can avoid it (it's a small place I've got) but I'd hate to find, that, say, in ten years, I'm out of copies to give away, and no more can be had anywhere...

We're about to kick out our 5th bandmate (for legitimate reasons: skill is low, ear is bad, attitude is defensive and lazy), who also happens to be one of my best friends. I want to make sure we do it in the most compassionate, generous way possible. What are some things to do -- and to avoid doing -- when we finally sit down with him? [more inside]

I want to throw out a few names of people who not only kept making good music but who had a critically better musical period later in life.

I recently came across the phrase "tricked out"--used just the way we use it today--in a book from the late 1800s. I was so shocked that I searched Project Gutenberg and found it used all over the place. What's the deal? And what are some other current-sounding phrases that go back further than you would think--used the way we use them today?

My friend wants to end a relationship with his girlfriend who he shares an apartment with. He is looking for some advice about how to deal with the apartment itself, since his name is on the lease. Should he pay her the money for the remaining months of rent in one lump sum? Or Should he suggest that they both move out, and then they split the cost of breaking the lease? And, if she wants to stay she can stay and pay full rent? He would love some ideas- its so hard to bring logistics into a very emotional situation. Thank you!

How do I handle this situation without looking like a jerk?
We have a new person at work. This person will need a laptop and the company will purchase it. I have a laptop purchased by our company, but it's about 2-3 years old. I'd like to get a new laptop as mine is somewhat outdated, but the if I get a new one, the company wants me to give my old one to the new person. How do I handle this? I'm going to be in charge of the transfer and this new person will see that I am getting a new one while he is getting my old one. I don't want to look like a jerk. What do I say? Help?

Roommate is mad that I'm moving out. We're on a month to month rental and I have contacted the landlord to end with the last day being July 31. I was typing a text to friend and the current roommate ended up receiving it. He's pissed that he received it through a text message and not through face to face interaction. He's now threatened to withhold July's rent until July 15, 2011, the last day possible according to the Saskatchewan Tenant Act. How do I make the current living situation as good as possible? I don't intend on escalating the situation and I'm going to ignore his threat. [more inside]

For the California folks:
I go to school out of state, and I accidentally let my vehicle registration expire. I'm trying to figure out how I can get it done quickly and remotely. My primary concern is the smog test - I'm due for one this year. Searching the internet has given me mixed responses, with some saying you have to go back to CA to get smog tests, and others saying you can waive it in absentia. I need to drive as soon as possible, so I'd really appreciate a prompt response!

Workout Question - A few years ago I went away from my cardio-only gym routine and added in weight lifting. I did chest press, lat pull downs, shoulder press, etc. I'm a girl, btw. I lost a little weight but now my arms are bulky, not super muscly but just bulkier and sometimes they don't fit in my shirts. I enjoy lifting weights but I feel conflicted about it if my arms are going to continue to get bigger and bigger. My question is - how do I continue to lift weights without my arms getting bulkier and bulkier? I would like to also make my arms less bulky if possible.. Are push-ups a good option?

I'm planning to drop out of grad school in a few weeks. My questions is, when do I tell my advisor? I would wait until the last day of the semester, but I have a big presentation that will require my thesis committee member's time. I really don't want to do this presentation so would telling my advisor before this happens be a good idea? I also feel it would be more decent of me to tell my advisor sooner rather than later, but I'm not sure what to do. My advisor can be really mean and may make my life a living hell for the final weeks/days that I'm there (though I guess I deserve it). Any insight is greatly appreciated.
