I have a client who has requested delivery of a video with timecode in the audio track. I know there are cameras that record timecode on an audio track, but I haven't found a way to generate such a track in post with Creative Cloud applications. The source video didn't come with an audio track. [more inside]

I need to install Informix support for PHP on my OSX machine, so I can use functions like ifx_connect. Getting this installed has been a command line nightmare - I've exhausted my google options and I'll gladly hire someone to take care of it for me. Looking either for help getting this working on OSX or for recommendations on how to find someone I can hire to get this set up. [more inside]
I use a 2006 Mac Pro. It's so old that I'm stuck with OS X 10.6.8 and lots of apps (even Firefox!) won't update any more. If I buy a second-hand Mac, am I at risk of (say) 2009 Macs falling out of OS support life while 2013 Macs are still supported, or is the architecture effectively identical from the OS' perspective? [more inside]
In the past week or so, a few aspects of my Mac's security setup have changed without my (knowing) intervention. 1. I've got my Mac set to lock itself after 60 minutes of inactivity. That is no longer happening; 2. Safari is bugging me to enter my password when I launch it. [more inside]
I received a voicemail via email through our office phone system. I double-clicked the attachment to play it in iTunes (Mac) and it's a legitimate voicemail. However, there is a lot of background noise (coffeeshop ambience, some singing). After the voice message finishes playing, the background audio continues and doesn't stop until iTunes is closed. Has anyone experienced this or knows what is causing it? [more inside]
I am on OSX 10.9.5 running chrome.Want to print out my Uber receipts but can not. The system stalls while trying to do print preview and nothing prints. Oddly enough I CAN print other emails without any problem. Ideas of a fix?

I'd like to try upgrading my Mac from OS X Yosemite to macOS Sierra. But in case I'm not happy with the upgrade, I'd like to be able to roll it back as painlessly as possible. What steps should I take to make sure I can do so if need be? Thanks!
Is there an OSX utility that will notify me if my battery time remaining suddenly decreases, e.g., going from five hours remaining to three hours remaining by opening a certain website? The fan spinning is a hint, but it isn't reliable. I've googled this but had no success.
I’m running OS X10.11.6. A week or so ago a new folder showed up on my hard drive, labeled only with a tilde (~). I have no idea where it came from, and can't get rid of it. [more inside]
Half the apps on my iMac that sync with iCloud have corrupt or missing .plist files that prevent them from launching. Signing out of iCloud, restarting, and logging back in to reset synced data did not resolve problems. Running First Aid on drive returns no errors. What next? [more inside]
My Mid-2010 Macbook Pro, which currently runs Mavericks, has been fuddy-duddying around as of late. Beachball city. As such, I finally pulled the trigger on upgrading my hardware: I bought a new SSD (the Samsung 850 EVO 500gb 2.5'') and 16gb of RAM. I'm preparing to install the SSD, and am trying to figure out how best to migrate my data from the old hard drive to the new one. I'm also wondering whether now would be a good time to upgrade to El Capitan. Help? [more inside]

My Mom has an old iMac that's always seemed a bit sluggish. I recently installed El Capitan and it's now painfully slow, so I tried the noatime trick and it makes a big difference. Problem is I can enable it using the terminal but I can't get it to persist across reboots. Does this have something to do with Apple's System Integrity Protection?
I've got a late 2009 iMac that has been experiencing this same issue for a long time. Every time I start up Spotlight completely re-indexes the hard drive. As a result, the system is slow for minutes after system startup. What would make it do this so consistently? [more inside]
I'm responding to student papers that are stuck inside our school's LMS. The software has a recording feature, but it is clunky and sluggish. What I would like to do is leave audio comments as a read the paper, hitting record and pause until I reach the end, then save the recording as an mp3. Quicktime would work perfectly for this if I could get the recording window to stay in the foreground. [more inside]

So I've got a macbook air. There is NOT a ton of room left on it. But somehow a bunch (like 25-30) photos I took were deleted. I'm still not sure how. And I want to restore JUST those photos. But as I understand it, I need to restore the entire library. And I don't have enough room for TWO libraries on this computer. So is it possible to just go back, look for the photos I want, and restore JUST those? If so...how? Latest mac OSX.
I don't do a lot of random downloading, and surf with NoScript, so I'm not too concerned about an always-on solution. I'd like to be able to scan odd bits and pieces, though. I used to use ClamXAV. That's gone to a paid product, which I'm 100% okay with paying for if it's still the best option. What else should I be looking at?
I will be reinstalling mac OSX Yosemite because of constant problems with it but I am looking to retain the folders that have been previosuly created to organise my mails. I am using Outlook 2011 as my mail client. Does using: File - Export - selecting outlook for mac data file (.olm), when imported back, retain the previous folder structure that I have used to organise my mails? If not could anyone suggest how I could keep the existing folder organisation? Many thanks!
I have a mid-2013 Macbook Air with 4GB of RAM. It's currently running Mavericks, and I would love to just keep it that way, but more and more software doesn't work with Mavericks. I would update, but I hear so many people who say that 4GB isn't enough and you need at least 8GB to run both Yosemite and El Capitan well and that performance is worse than on Mavericks. I'm editing my poetry manuscript and foolishly I've got a few stray poems nowhere else except scattered over some Facebook messenger threads. I have a Macbook Air that is happily chugging along on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Obviously, I haven't upgraded the OS in, well, ever, which hasn't really been a problem. However, lately, I'm starting to get little issues here and there, where I can't use a particular app or software because my OS doesn't meet the minimum requirements, etc. My biggest concern about upgrading is whether my computer has enough oomph to handle the newer, bigger OS or if it will just get bogged down. Normally, when I open up the Finder on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012, running OS 10.11.1) in the sidebar to the left of the window, I can see a list of my favorite folders. But lately, sometimes when I open Finder (or when I click "Browse..." to select a file for upload somewhere) the list of Favorites is often missing. Sometimes all that's left is "Media," sometimes it's "Shared." This makes it really difficult to navigate my computer. What is causing this, and how can I fix it?

I manage my photos on my iMac with Picasa, but have realized that Apple's Photo app has sort of taken control of the library duties, and the "photos library.photolibrary" file is now in the tens of gigs...in short, that's way too large and I don't know where to start fixing this [more inside]
