Using Base & numbering

Auto-generated numbers using Open Office base. Can it pick up where I left off? Hi there. I'm trying to create a simple database for storing purchase orders. Right now everything is done in Excel and information has to be re-input in 4 different spreadsheets. So I am attempting to build something I can use.

Currently we're up to PO number 1525. Ideally I'd like to have Base start with order number 1526 & keep going from there. Is that possible? And I'd like that PO number to be the primary key to avoid dupes. Is that also possible? I've looked high and low and can't get it to auto-generate without getting errors when adding a new record.

Thanks!

decimal points in placing limit orders on stocks

Why doesn't Questrade let me place Limit Orders on stocks beyond two decimal points, when on these same stocks they display the price wth 4 decimal points? For example, I wanted to place a Buy Limit Order on a stock, and entered a limit price of 1.1533. The order was rejected, but a order at 1.16 was accepted.

They display the current price at 1.1533, so why couldn't I BUY it at 1.1533?

Pomodoro, no.

How did you give up certain foods for the rest of your goddamn life? Well, it's that time again. The time where my doctor says, "John, this is it..."

Giving up tomatoes is really, really difficult but I have to do it. Even though tomatoes are basically wonderful and in everything. What are some ways that Mefites have given up things they are told to stop consuming, and what are some "fun" ways I can work tomatoes out of my diet?

Let me just add: I hate bell peppers, so please do not recommend them as a substitute. Another bell pepper and I will literally vomit. Also, I already cannot eat eggplant. Basically, I am fucked as a human being.

I should note that tomatoes are not the only thing I am being asked to give up but I have to start with the most difficult thing or else none of the rest of the stuff will be easy. Sorry. However, I think I can handle my addiction to Mentos all on my own. Sorry, I know how lame my life is.

Where in Toronto can I buy a money order in US Dollars, drawn on an American bank?

Western Union no longer sells US Dollar money orders in Canada. Where in Toronto can I still buy a money order in US Dollars, drawn on an American bank? (The ones from WU were drawn on a Wells Fargo branch in Colorado) My payee won't accept postal money orders, nor money orders drawn on a Canadian bank. CIBC and RBC used to sell money orders or drafts drawn on an American bank, but apparently they don't anymore (assuming the people I spoke to in the branches know what they're talking about).

A money order (or other form of cheque drawn on an American bank) is the preferred payment method.

How can I design a robust system that collects lunch orders and payments, collates them, and then dispatches them to a sandwich shop - all automatically? I've finally had it with our office canteen. It's dreadful and expensive. But it's also a hike to the nearest shop. Everyone moans about the canteen, but no one wants to have to run an order book every day.

I would like to set up some kind of ordering system where colleagues could place their order and pay by a certain time. Then that order would be automatically sent to a sandwich shop, which would then deliver to the front desk.

All of the ideas I can think of (using a wiki for example) involve me having to collect cash or otherwise getting involved. So I'm turning it over to the collective creative geniuses of the green. What can you think of?

I'm in DC if that helps.

Getting Scammed?

eBay filter: I'm looking to buy a Macbook Pro @ about $2000. The seller will only accept USPS money orders, and that makes me a bit nervous... He has good feedback...just over a hundred. But all his items were sold over 6 months ago so I can't see the items. He's been good about getting in touch with me, and I've even spoken with him on the phone.

I'm still a little nervous I'm headed to the wash though. He assures me that a USPS money order is completely secure for both of us--leaving a paper trail and protected for fraudulent transactions. I asked him about escrow.com and Paypal, and he told me about past problems he's had with them (seemingly legitimate).

Oh yeah, possible screwball--he's in Canada.

FWIW, I'm just buying this computer because it's a great deal, and I'm going to resell it. (College student, gotta pay the bills.) What do you say, am I getting taken? Or am I safe to go ahead?

How to stop a lost money order, friends?

A friend of mine accidentally lost a money order that was her entire rent. It was in her purse early in the day, missing later. The coupon/receipt was still attached and it wasn't made out. She got it from her bank, drawing the funds from her account.

The question is: can she cancel the money order without the coupon, like a stop payment on a check? Or is she totally screwed? And if so, what's the procedure? She's not a girl of means, so this is rather important if it's possible. Thanks Mefi!

Ordering dietary supplements for Autists

International ordering via a US website, technical problems ordering supplements for an Autistic child. Should I give up? Can you recommend alternatives? My sister in Eire has been advised to supplement her Autistic daughter's diet with a series of products from Kirkman Laboratories in Oregan, USA. She's asked me to do the order as the site is poorly designed and very confusing. I found the products I want, put in my CC details and the shipping address (Ireland Eire) billing address (UK) but no luck. Each time you submit the page it re-sets the addresses to USA and say "You haven't entered a State" There is information on this page advising international customers that they will have to pay shipping tax, so they seem to be able to process international orders. I've had this exact problem before on a number of US websites when looking at other products so I gave up and bought elsewhere

Attempts to contact them by e-mail fail as their e-mail goes to IM and I'm not set up for that. Phoning them is a series of commands which then leads to "leave a message"

Can anyone recommend other good suppliers of dietary supplements that deliver to Europe? Bonus points if you know why the website does that and can give me a way around it!!

Radio Shack Smack

Is it possible for Radio Shack to "not guarantee" an "allocated" online order can be cancelled? Sorry, long description. I ordered an item from Radio Shack online a month ago. They said it was in stock, and lo, 24 hours later, it was not. After waiting 2 weeks, I cancelled it. They weren't very nice about it. This was about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

I get an email tonight telling me the item was shipped—this even after a cancellation, me collecting the name of the person I spoke with, etc. When I called back tonight, I got an explanation about how the item was "allocated" when I ordered it, and that the customer service agent I spoke with the first time put in a request for cancellation, but that cancellation cannot be guaranteed once an item is “allocated”. This is the first I have heard of this from Radio Shack or anyone else, and sounds like complete horseshit.

A few other factors-- in the time between my cancellation and today, my credit card company lowered my APR, to issuing a new card. Radio Shack has the old card number (and that number, while attached to the new card for about a week, is no longer). I don't know if I can get caught in a situation where Radio Shack comes back with a "you gave us a bad credit card number", and have that be a fiasco. Also, I do not want to have to spend any of my own money to return this item. The agent I spoke with tonight said the likelihood of getting a prepaid return box from Radio Shack is close to nil. Can I simply refuse delivery through UPS? Is this a wise thing to do?

What are some things I need to be prepared to say to the supervisor should he or she attempt to make this hard? As far as I was concerned, and was led to believe by the first call I made, this thing was cancelled weeks ago. I want no part of seeing the object, having it touch my credit, nothing. Any suggestions?

Cheap photographers shopping cart

I'm looking for an online shopping cart that is free (or very cheap) and could handle sessions of wedding and event photos.

I would be adding a couple hundred new "items" at once, which I think would make most shopping carts not work. Right now I've got a ASP file that builds a gallery from pictures in folders, and in a frame to the side I've got a basic email form. Like this: http://www.bisigimpactgroup.com/clients/bb21/orderform/

It's primitive, and unsecured, but it's easy to create new catalogs of images. I get so few orders that I don't really need much automation is the order processing part, but I would like something that added up a total and submitted their credit card information securely.
