Where can I swim in Denver?

Where can I swim in Denver? A 50-meter (Olympic) pool is a must.

Indoor or outdoor, but indoor would probably be better considering how cold it is in autumn, winter, spring.

Membership preferred, unless there's a public facility that isn't overrun with crowds.

I'd love a place where I can reserve a lane (me only, no sharing) for 30- or 60-minute swim. I'm even willing to pay a lot for a low-traffic, more exclusive location.

I like to swim at night, so late hours would great.

No children would be fantastic!

Close to downtown?

Idle hands are eating a devils food cake

I have the opportunity to exercise in the morning, at lunch and in the evening. Does it matter if I do certain exercises in order? I have an hour to workout before work, around 7-8am in the morning. Then another hour at lunch from 12-1pm. Finally, I have about 2 hours in the evening, typically 5-8pm or 7-10pm.

This is about 5 hours a day, possible more, that I could be using to reach my fitness goals. Right now I use 1 hour of that time.

I already follow a 3 day a week lifting routine from a Men's Health book. That typically takes about 20 to 40 minutes. Once or twice a week I attend a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class in the evenings that lasts 45 minutes.

I could do this indefinitely (have been doing this for almost a year) but it's not helping me reach my goals of weightloss. It has helped me maintain my weight and it has improved my fitness levels, but that isn't enough. My goal is to reduce weight (I'm 25 years old, 5'10, 240lbs).

Can you point me to extended exercise routines for people with a lot of time on their hands? Maybe the routines used for Olympic athletes or "the biggest loser tv show"? The only exercise I hesitate to do a lot of at this weight is running for extended periods since it tends to cause pain in my shins and knees.

I know nutrition matters. The issue on the nutrition end is not daily things like sodas or cookies. Rather, it's things like eating an entire box of cookies out of boredom. Being aware of this problem, combined with burning that spare time staying physically active, I think, will help me with this.

Why is the Olympic medal table different in American media?

Why do Olympic medal tables in US media look different to medal tables in media in the rest of the world? I've seen it in quite a few places: CNN, ESPN, NY Times, for example, are presenting a medal table ranking countries by total medals won. Everywhere else seems to rank by golds, then silvers, then bronzes. Why the difference? A snarky answer would be that the USA is top of the USA's list, but behind China in everybody else's. Has the USA media always ranked like this? And if so, why? It makes no sense to me - people remember gold medal winners, not bronze medal winners. As a guess, did the Soviet Union tend to win more golds than the USA, but fewer total medals?

Best beach on the Washington state Pacific Coastline?

Best beach on the Washington state Pacific Coastline? Taking a looong day-trip (rain or shine) to the Pacific Coast this Saturday from Seattle. Anyone have any recommendations for the best beach with access on the Washington coastline?

Also... I want to head South (Olympia) to the coast and come back through the North (via Bainbridge ferry) on the way home to Seattle. Anyone ever done this? Is this crazy to think to do (by simply driving and not stopping very much) in one day?

(Any suggestions as to good eateries/sights that can be easily accessed en route to or from the coast are welcomed as well.)

strength training for a newb?

I'd like to learn how to do olympic style weight lifting, somewhere around Vancouver, BC. Any ideas? I know I can just go to a gym but I understand that proper form is the key. I'd like a professional to teach me how to do it.

The Olympic Peninsula, from Seattle: how, where, etc...

The Olympic Peninsula, from Seattle: how, where, etc... I spent at least 2 days a week in the mountains of Big Sur when I lived in Monterey, and was amazed by the beauty I found there. Now I'm living in Seattle and want to experience the Olympic Peninsula. Any advice about driving, routes, towns, mountains, secrets? Looking to hike a little, but mostly drive (or fly to Port Angeles from Seattle? Is there a way to get up to Hurricane Ridge w/o a car?) Thanks!
