My friends and I want to take a weekend roadtrip from Oberlin (close to Cleveland, OH). Where should we go? What should we see along the way? None of us are from Ohio, so we have no ideas! Thanks!

Medicaid in Ohio?

Applying for Medicaid- question on "other people in the home who receive income?" The S.O. is applying for Medicaid in Ohio, mainly for the medical benefits - asking this anonymously to protect his privacy.

There is a section on the form that asks "Will you or the people in your home receive income this month?" In addition, it asks for the amount that anyone living in the home has in cash/checking/savings/bonds/gold bars, what have you.

To my mind, this makes no sense. I am not married to this person. I do help him out when I can, but I've had some rather pressing expenses of my own, so haven't been able to lately. Furthermore, how is this handled when people are just roommates? What does it matter what your roommate makes?

The gist of it is, I'm afraid my income may disqualify him, and I don't want that to happen. He doesn't need food stamps or cash benefits, just medical assistance.

Note : He works part time for a retail chain that has severely cut back hours, and never provides insurance. Yes, he is actively looking for a better position.

Where to car camp with a dog either a) along I-90 in OH or NY, or b) along the northern shore of Lake Ontario?

we're two women driving from milwaukee, wisconsin to central vermont with our dog, and we'd like to car camp along the way. we need a camping place that's dog friendly, not loud and obnoxious, and isn't run by religious fundamentalists (we're clearly total homos). any recommendations on sites? we're not sure about the route yet - our two options are going up through michigan and canada and then back down through northern vermont, or going the way we always go, which is straight across I-90. our hope is to leave home around 6am, and drive for about 12 hours, which will give us enough time to set up the tent before it gets dark, and give our poor dog (and ourselves) some much needed exercise. so if the campground has access to a clean lake/pond, trails or any other fun exercise-type thing, that's an added bonus. for the route through canada, driving for 12 hours will land us somewhere around kingston on the northern shore of lake ontario. taking I-90 will get us to new york state, somewhere around buffalo.

also, we'd like to not have to travel too far off the highway. however, we also don't really want to stay in a campground that's incredibly crowded, with only a couple trees and a bush between campsites. ideally, we'd like our accomodations to be no more than a half hour off the freeway, but if there's something really amazing out there that we should know about that's further, by all means, share away.

finally, on the way back, we'll definitely be traveling the I-90 route, as we'll have an extra passenger w/o a passport. so any recommendations on sites between 9 and 12 hours from montpelier would be awesome (for the record, this is basically the state of ohio).

in your response, i'd love to hear why you like this particular campground. thank you so much for your time and assistance! after the trip, i'll post about where we ended up and how it was.

What is the name of this body of water in southeast Ohio? What is the name of this body of water in southeast Ohio. It is east of Greasy Ridge, Ohio and south of Polka Dot, Ohio.
No, it is not "Scottown, Ohio". That's just what Google maps is calling this spot/area.

Bonus question: why does it appear on Google maps satellite view, but not on the "map" view as a blue body of water?

Bonus, Bonus question: who "owns" this body of water? I'd like to fish it and ask for permission. ;)

Things to do in Toledo, Ohio? I'll be in Toledo this weekend with my extended family and plenty of free time. What are some cool things to keep us busy? Much of the time will be just my four-year-old son and me, but all of Saturday I'll be in charge of the entertainment for a group of us of varying ages including a teenager and older adults. Ohio BMV Bureaucracy filter: I have a Texas driver's license. I recently moved to Ohio and didn't have a car and didn't bother to get an Ohio license. A friend of mine gave me her old car, took the plates (for her new car), and left me the title. Please explain this MESSY bureaucracy! In more detail:
- I need an Ohio driver's license, have a passport and birth certificate. I was informed that I also need to take the written test. Not a problem, except that I don't think I should drive a plate-less car to take the test. And since I have passport and birth certificate, as well as the Texas license, do I really need something with my SSN on it?

-I have a car with no plates. I need to transfer the title into my name, get the inspection, and register the car in my name. Right now I think I risk it getting towed because it has no plates and is parked on a public street. Is there a simple way to get temp plates without going through all the red tape or is it even worth the bother?

HOW IN SAM TARNATION do I get these things done without a vehicle? And in what order? And if you're familiar with Cleveland, where's the best place to go? Is there a one-stop shopping area that has License Bureau, Clerk of Courts, and inspection in the same place?

I already went here and a few other places, but nothing clearly states the order of things and how and where to go. Help me cut this red tape!

Cleveland fashion help: awesome shoestore and a decent tailor. While Nordstrom's has its place for shoes, I wonder if there are any cool local Cleveland shoe stores, preferably on the East side (but distance is no object!) ... and while you're at it, can you recommend a tailor who can hem jeans the right way (i.e. so they look like a jean hem, not regular pants)? I've been burned by a tailor who shall remain nameless (rhymes with Schmeits, on Schmoventry) and my jeans look dorky.

How to buy my own Health Insurance in Cleveland?

I pay for my own health insurance in NYC (via Freelancer's Union) and am moving to Cleveland. Freelancer's Union has a deal in place where, if I remain a member, I can buy insurance through a company called Golden Rule, but there appear to be no advantages of going that route. So, anyone in Cleveland familiar with self-insurance options? Or a reputable broker?

Is there a way to obtain the mugshot of a former inmate/current parolee in Franklin County (Columbus,) Ohio? I had an amazing friendship with a classmate in high school, about ten years ago, that I've often regretted letting taper off. I'm going to be back in that city to visit an ill relative soon, and in the process of trying to track down current contact information for my long lost friend, I found that they may or may not have been convicted of a class four felony robbery. I'm shocked and confused, because this would be completely, absolutely out of character for the person I knew. None the less, this person appears to share the same name and birth date, and we /did/ grow up in an area with an usually high rate of drug use, violence, and indeed robberies (the hilltop and the bottoms, if you're familiar.) For reasons of personal safety, I am not interested in making contact if they are indeed one and the same.

Tax law question for POD CD

Tax-filter and estate-filter. I live in Ohio. The deceased lived in Ohio and gave me a certificate of deposit upon her death using a payable on death designation during 2008. I then cashed it out and placed this money in a checking account. I am not otherwise involved with the estate in any way. I have usually used "free-file" to do my taxes.

Two-part question: a) does this money count towards adjusted gross income? and if so...um... how? (I know so little about it I'm not sure what I'm asking) b) assuming my AGI is still under the $56k limit for free-file, is there any other reason why I cannot or should not do my taxes in that matter since I inherited this CD? (Hopefully this wasn't asked before but I couldn't find it. Also, irs.gov search sucks a long one.) Thank you!!

I may be moving to Columbus, Ohio, from New York. I'm wondering about intellectual/cultural life there. Please tell me what you know about Columbus to help me decide. I'm also interested in knowing more about mass transport, whether it is absolutely necessary to have a car, the possibility of bicycling, and which neighborhoods are good to live in (and which ones to avoid). Are there any good coffee houses I should know about?

Rustbelt Roadtrip!

Looking for tips for my upcoming Minneapolis - New York roadtrip. Specifically, where should I sleep, and are there cool things along the way I should check out? I'll be by myself and this will be in December. I've done variations on this trip several times, but never by myself and always in a rush. Since i'll be doing this trip alone, I plan on pacing myself: 19 hours over three or maybe even four days. Here's a map of the route I'm likely to take, with this route as an alternative.

Questions:

Where are good places to stay along this route? I'd like to try to stay in some cute towns, as opposed to a strip mall motel or spending 3 hours getting into and out of a city like Chicago. I'm really into old industrial towns, which there should be a lot of along this route. Or a college town could be good. Either way, a hotel/motel in town where I can walk to a nearby restaurant/coffee shop after a day of driving would be perfect, and I'd like to keep it under $100/night.

Any other good places to stop along the way? I'm looking for good places to eat (ie, great examples of local cuisine, exceptional road food, diners, etc) or cool historical spots, or really anything interesting along the way to break up the monotony of the road.

Also, I've read a lot of the other road trip questions, but I'll certainly take any general road trip advice you've got. I've never done such a long trip by myself!

To answer questions that might come up: I have a AAA membership, I plan on tuning up my car before I go, and yes, this trip does need to be made by car.

I'm worried she's getting homesick, so I'm making her a CD of songs about our home state of Ohio, or being home, or finding a new home. These are ones I listen to while alone in NYC, but I'm hoping to find a few new songs for both me and my sister to enjoy.

The addition of "Red," "Woodcat," and "Naive Melody" will probably invite many more suggestions for general songs about home, as they're easier to think of, but I chose them because they're fairly personal songs, are lovely and well-written, and expand her already tailored list of favorite musicians. Please advise general songs with caution!

Her favorite bands/musicians are mellow, indie stuff: Squarepusher, José González, TNP, Andrew Bird, Beirut, and Iron & Wine.

How do I sell my car?

Where can I find information about how to sell my car? (Ohio) I've never sold a car before and I'm unsure of all the steps I need to take (and in what order to take them). The BMV website doesn't provide much guidance (unless I'm missing some sort of obvious page that explains it all). When do I sign over the title? What do I do with the plates? When do I notarize the mileage? What steps am I leaving out?

Can you help me locate editable vector street map of southeastern suburbs of Columbus, Ohio? Specifically something that I can open up in Adobe Illustrator, and change the typeface, colors, etc.
Also, that covers the areas of Reynoldsburg, Pickerington, and Canal Winchester.
There is some money in a budget to pay for the map, but not a lot.

Columbus, Ohio: need pedicure, yoga, and bar recommendations. I'm going to Columbus for a wedding this weekend. I am staying in the Arena area, on North High St. I'm looking for the following within walking distance:

*Yoga studio. Preferably vinyasa (not Bikram).
*Nail salon. Can be low-tech, as long as it's clean and does pedicures.
*Bar/pub. Place to catch up with an old friend. He lives there but is very new to the area. I'm not against younger people, but would prefer something other than the fraternity-house-extension college places.

Ear piercing in Columbus, Ohio. My mother and her best friend are in their mid fifties and have both decided they need ear piercings (my mom's first, her friend's second). Being home to OSU the area is rife with piercing and tattoo parlors, but I don't think that's so much what they're going for. The mall experience isn't what they want, either. Are there places to go with professionals that cater less to the extensively body-modded crowd than the places near campus? Do spas do this or anything?

(No offense met to any body-modded individuals out there. Some of my best friends... etc etc. I just have a conservative mother.)

I'm looking for a nice restaurant ideally a half hour southeast of Toledo, OH. My family lives in Northeast OH. My mom's friend is visiting Detroit. They'd like to meet up for a nice lunch that isn't too far for either - it doesn't have to be extra fancy, but something nicer and more local than an Applebees (for example) would be great.

Any alternative suggestions for a place two 50+ year-old-women could go to catch-up and have a nice conversation are also welcome. Things like tea houses are fantastic.

Trying to find a weekday-evening or weekend creative writing class in Columbus, Ohio. I am trying to find a summer fiction writing class in Columbus Ohio that have class time in the evenings or weekends. I've already tried the OSU and CSCC websites, and all they have are day classes or distance learning. I know that one doesn't need a class to start writing, but I've always found the energy of an group of like-minded people an spur to my own work. So what's a working stiff who also happen to like writing to do in Columbus?

Driving routes from Cincinnati to Ann Arbor?

Please tell me about your experience driving the main or alternate routes from Cincinnati, OH to Ann Arbor, MI. Google Maps gives the main route as primarily on I-75, and says it takes 4 hours, but a friend of mine said it takes more like 6 hours and encounters big traffic jams in Dayton and Toledo. If I check "avoid highways", Google gives me a route that goes up the western side of the state, primarily on route 127, and it says that takes 6 hours. If the alternate route is a pretty drive, I'd be happy to take it. If you've driven from Cincy to Ann Arbor yourself, please tell me what you know about this or any other routes, and which you would recommend. Time is not so much the issue, I'd just like to have a nice non-frustrating drive.

I'll be in Dayton (actually Kettering) OH for one day at the beginning of April. I could drive up to the Cleveland area to visit my son, but I'll be doing that anyway 2 weeks later. What should I do? Don't mind driving up to an hour or so, as previous threads on the topic seem to indicate that the best thing to do in the Dayton area is to drive through it on your way somewhere else. I like museums, local color, historic sites, nature.
