On my Mac (Tiger), I prefer to have the dock at the bottom, hidden. But all my applications insist on opening new documents and windows so that the new window touches the bottom of the screen. As a result, it often happens that when I go to resize the window by grabbing the bottom right corner, I invoke the dock instead. Usually, a second try will be successful, but this is annoying as heck.
Is there a global setting that will tell my applications to stay out of that last quarter inch of my screen? Or some other solution to this?

I have Drupal 5.2 installed on OS X 10.4.10. On the status page, Drupal says, "The GD library for PHP is missing or outdated. Please check the PHP image documentation for information on how to correct this." (This is the PHP 4.4.7 that is built into Tiger.)

This is so embarrassing. I'd post it anonymously if I didn't think I'd have to provide more info. Anyway...I set up my new iMac last night and didn't even
think about the firewall 'til this afternoon. So it was off for something like 12 hours of broadband, static-IP connectedness to the Net. How hosed am I, and is there anything I can do to put some or all of the horses back in the barn?

What is the best 3-button mouse for OS X 10.3? I'm looking for a 2-button+scroll wheel mouse that's good for gaming. More buttons than that would be OK, but solid, responsive left-click, right-click, and scroll is imperative. I know, it's a very subjective question, but what do
