Just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Suddenly Microsoft Office 2008 isn't seeing all 1900 of my fonts -- and some of the usual defaults are gone! What the hell happened and how can I fix it?

Let's say I spend long hours staring at a computer screen where some of the fonts are too small and I have no way of increasing them, which creates a diabolical eye-strain device of reasonable fonts mixed in with unreasonable system fonts. I normally have no vision problems otherwise. Is this going to damage my eyesight if I keep it up? (Medical opinions and links to medical articles welcome). And is Leopard's "resolution independence" or anything else in Leopard going to bring OSX near to where XP is in terms of being able to increase the system fonts without lowering the resolution? (I'm using a Macbook Pro).

I've been playing around lately with fonts, and I recently installed and then uninstalled FontAgent Pro. Now I'm finding certain sites and applications are rendering certain fonts oddly, making them appear heavier then they should.

There was a recent
question about nice fixed-width fonts. I tried Bitstream Vera Sans on OS X and love it- I'd like to make it my new Terminal.app font. Unfortunately, the _ character does not display. Since a lot of the coders I work with use _ to seperate words in variable names, this is a big problem for me. Google turns up... my comment in the referenced thread, and that's it. Any other Mac users found a solution?

2000 fonts, and I'm missing something really important! Last week I converted from Suitcase to FontBook, and somewhere, somehow in the process I toasted a system font and everything is now really, really bad...

I'm using Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger), and Microsoft Word 2004. Where the heck can I find some free Hebrew fonts that will show up in a freakin' Word doc?!? I've tried several Unicode fonts (SBL Hebrew and Cardo) - they show up in my Word font menu, but only with English characters! Can I still download either TrueType or PostScript fonts, or did those stop working on Macs during the days of New Coke and Reagonomics?
