Clothing babies; politely disseminating a baby registry

Mr. liet and I are expecting a baby in July, and as he'll be our first baby, and I have absolutely zero experience with other people's babies, I have questions. The AskMe archives have covered most of them, but I'm curious about two things: how much and what kind of clothing we should have on hand, and how to disseminate our registry without throwing a baby shower. Is two weeks too young for a road trip to Death Valley?

Teeny Everyday was born ten days ago, and mom and baby are doing very well. To celebrate paternity leave ending, Mom had the bright (or maybe not so bright) idea of a road trip to her favorite national park, Death Valley. However, I've only been there once, and am somewhat hazy on the details of how we got to certain places of interest, like Zabriskie Point. Is this trip unrealistic with a newborn? [more inside]

Weirder than placenta encapsulation...

I just had my newborn son circumcised at a nice modern hospital in a country that doesn't really "do" circumcision (India). After the procedure was over, the doctor asked me if I wanted the foreskin, since (according to him) some people want it to keep it for "religious purposes." Does anyone know what groups keep the removed foreskin and what they do with it? Googling isn't turning up anything, but I might be using the wrong key words.

Preparing for 1st baby- when to save vs splurge? buy new vs used?

Preparing for our first baby in October and trying to figure out the smartest approach to equipping ourselves with everything we're going to need. So many choices to make! What things should we pay more for because we'd regret pinching pennies, and when is splurging on the pricier stuff a waste? What should we look for new vs used (and not just for safety issues like carseats, but also what's the key "never waste your money on buying X new, you can get it so much cheaper used" stuff)? Baby gift for parents in small apt.? (in Greece)

My neighbors are having a baby soon, and I'd like ideas for something useful to give them that won't end up just taking up space in a small apartment. How Is Babby Cared For: Crash Course in Babby 101

My partner and I just found out last night that we have been chosen as adoptive parents to a baby... who is due in September! So, suddenly lots to do and lots to learn. Where do we even start?! Instruction manuals, blogs, scholarly articles, To Do Lists, To Don't Do Lists... What are the resources you found indispensable? Which did you find later that you wished you'd had earlier? Which are a waste of my time? We have wonderful family and friends who I know will help us figure all of this out, but I need to start building up my own arsenal of resources.

Pregnant with first child, during a chaotic and stressful time

Due to an incredible amount of life changes (including marraige, move, new job and death of a parent) I have barely been able to do all the things you are supposed to do when you are pregnant with your first child. Due date is a little over am month away. On top of that I have gained too much weight and feel very uncomfortable, especially at work. My questions range from how do I make the next six weaks bearable (especially at my desk job) given I've outgrown my maternity clothes and feel really uncomfortable physically, to what are the top three things I must learn and/or have before baby arrives? Always be prepared?

Currently 10 weeks pregnant with our first. We are trying to brainstorm everything we can possibly do ahead of time to make maternity leave and the first weeks/months home with a newborn go as smoothly as possible. Some examples: buy a chest freezer and fill it with meals that can just be popped in the microwave or oven. Save up for doggie day care passes to get our dogs out of the house and tired out in the beginning. Friend just gave birth. Leaving her husband. What does she need to know?

Not the happiest circumstances to bring a new child into this world. After years of supporting her husband, financially and emotionally, she's reached her limit. He's dealing with some addiction issues, and has become increasingly hostile with the birth of this baby. Maybe they'll work this out one day, but right now she doesn't feel safe, has filled her car with personal belongings and is staying with family. She left him a lengthy note, but does not want to talk to him in the next few days. This has been a long time coming, and while I don't imagine it will be a surprise—his family has actually encouraged her to do this—he won't react well. What sort of legal precautions should she begin taking? [more inside]
