Desperately seeking 80s West Village Chinese restaurant

Hunan Pan was at the SE corner of Hudson & Perry when I left NY in 86; I don’t know when it closed. Does anyone know if they moved somewhere, or opened another restaurant? I was quite attached to the place for a few years, and haven’t seen a couple of dishes done quite so well anywhere else.

How the heck do I open a restaurant

I had a beautiful restaurant space fall into my lap. I've been dreaming about having a restaurant. I committed to signing a contract with the owner. Now what? The space is being renovated and I get to build my kitchen from scratch: we have agreed to shoot for opening day one year from now. The next obvious step is to hammer out the contract in the presence of a lawyer, which I hope will happen next week. Then what do I do? I have a vision as far as food and decor go. I am confident and have decided to take the plunge (life is short).

What I wonder about is the nitty gritty: I suppose I need an LLC, a bank loan and eventually an accountant. I guess I need to talk to city hall. There are health code considerations, naturally. . . insurance. How in the world do I start tackling this in an organized fashion?

pricing drinks

I am helping my friends open a bar and we are trying to figure out the math behind what to charge for drinks. Is there some sort of formula we should be aware of? Its a bar in toronto, want prices to be fair, affordable. Rail drinks will be 6 or 7 dollars, but when we get into a scotches and premiums and such how do we price this fairly? for our cost $40 dollar bottle of woodford... what would we charge per oz to the customer? or an $80 bottle of balvenie? Is there some sort of standard mark up or?

any advice from anyone in the industry would be greatly appreciated, or even drinkers in toronto... what do you expect to pay at a low key bar?

Thanks!

NYC folks: What happened to the BAMN! automat?

NYC folks: What happened to the BAMN! automat? I'm curious why it didn't work out for them... Wikipedia says it's been closed since March, but I just saw them featured on a TV show the other night (it could've been a re-run though); have they re-opened or re-located?

If they're totally done, then I wonder what happened to them/what went wrong. Maybe the lack of customer service? I think many fast food restaurants can be turned into vending machines, but at the same time, people want customer service; a face, a smile, a real person in front of the machine.

NYC Restaurant Recommendation

NYC Restaurant Filter: Looking for a nice restaurant very close to Carnegie Hall for dinner on Wednesday night. (Or walking distance from Madison Sq Park would also work.) - Reservations a plus (we have a group of 6).
- One of our party is vegetarian, so should have some options for him. (aka no steakhouses unfortunately.)
- ~$25 entree range
- Asian, Thai, or Indian would be nice but isn't a requirement. Any recommendation would be helpful, thanks!

Chritsmas lights New York City

Trying to locate a restaurant in New York famous for its Christmas lights. This restaurant was featured in a television Christmas lights special last Christmas, that included New York City. Does anyone know the restaurant. And while I'm at it, we'll be visiting NY for 5 days starting Friday. Have Rockettes tickets, but would enjoy any ideas for things special to do there this time of year. Thank you.

East Side restaurant

We're going to a wedding with my in-laws on E. 69 and Park and are looking for a good place nearby to take them for lunch. Some place classy but not too hoity-toity... and a good beer/wine selection would be a plus. Authentic Japanese, Indian, French, all responses welcome!

Yet another NYC restaurant request, but with details!

Yet another NYC restaurant recommendation request: Taking ~15 colleagues out to dinner, walking from Times Square (46th&Broadway), looking to spend $20-30 per head, and be able to make a same-day reservation. Tall order, but bonus points for an NYC experience not available in Toronto/Montreal. Recommendations so far include Wu Liang Ye (48th between 5th-6th)... but even that's right on the edge of walking distance. I know it's lame and we should go to Downtown/Brooklyn/Uptown/anywhere else, but please help!

Event-type restaurant in Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village NYC EVENT restaurant recommendation. We're looking for a restaurant in the Village that is an experience to go to. Not because of the food--the food doesn't even have to be that good. More looking for an experience or extraoridinary atmosphere.

We have guests coming in to the city that will probably go to a lot of other areas in the city over the next few days, but probably not to the Village. So what ideas are there for an experience, as opposed to a great meal, in the East or West Village, or walking distance? Examples that don't work for the crowd we have in mind would be Jekyll & Hyde (for kids) or Lips (a little too crazy.)

Grange Hall would have been good, but it's closed. Its replacement, Commerce, would work, but is too expensive, as we expect the guests are going to try to treat us, and we don't want to blow their budget. Chumley's would have been good, but it's closed for renovations.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is there a bad day to eat fish in NYC?

Fact or fiction : All (or most) NYC restaurants get their fish deliveries on the same day every week. So, as the legend goes, it is a bad idea to order fish in a restaurant on the day or two preceding that day.

Some say that the deliveries come on Monday, others say Tuesday. It seems implausible, but I've heard it from a number of people who have lived in the city for longer than I.
