Comfortable shoes for NYC businessman edition.

I just trudged 3/4 of a mile down 42nd street. My fancy black dress shoes (Allen Edmonds) are NOT cut out for this. My pinky toes have been replaced by blisters. What are the most comfortable shoes I can wear to work? I work in the financial industry but the dress code is business casual: slacks, button down shirt, maybe jacket or tie, rarely a full suit. Both black and brown shoes are needed, men's size 12. Must withstand walking in NYC.

Quitting a new job after 2 months...please hope me!

I just hit the two month mark at my new job. I am miserable, due primarily to doing the work of about 3 people and the company culture (it's a small, family run business, and the two sons who are taking over the company in the next 2 years ran down the public hallway cursing each other out and hitting one another yesterday, to the point that one of them left with his face bleeding and we had to talk a tenant down the hall out of calling the cops). I've decided to leave, despite not having another job lined up. a) What's the best way to do this, and b) How do I spin it to potential employers? [more inside]

Death, Taxes, and my LLC

My LLC is going legit January 1st in Michigan. I'm a brand new business owner in an economically depressed state and I'm starting to turn a profit which means dealing with taxes and the IRS. I'm young, I don't know anything about business taxes, and I'm somewhat frustrated at how painful this is for a new business owner who just wants to pay his fair share. I have an accountant who I know is really good, but I need to know kind of the general picture of what is happening so I can stay on top of things. I don't want to throw it all on the accountant and I want to be proactive. [more inside]

What to give a best friend for their new business?

Mrs. Killaseal's best friend started a business less than a year ago (so far, so good). Mrs. K would like nothing more than to be able to assist best friend at the new business (food industry), but distance we live apart will not permit that, so that is out. So, we would like to give her a nice gift to congratulate her. Mrs. K wants to know, should we buy her an actual item (or items), in the 200-300 dollar range, or should we just give her a nice card with equivalent cash, since every budding entrepreneur could probably use the extra cash to help out with the new business? Mrs. K worries that although they are best friends, cash might still be tacky. [more inside]

Please help me find a great business name

Can you help me find a name for my new small business - it is going to reflect my recent Swedish/therapeutic massage and waxing qualifications - and interest in helping people ease tension in their bodies to help them deal with the rest of their lives. I am hoping to attract sport-related clients, but also people who want relaxation massage (so a flowery spa type name might not work). The business name needs to appeal to a broad range of people, enable me to expand later to broader aspects such as pilates, holistic healing and possibly life coaching. I have to be really careful not to have a name that gives the wrong impression about the type of massage (e.g. Euphoria). What do you think would work? 'Align', 'Ascend'.....??

How can I leverage my potential business partner 's interest and solidify a business idea?

Hello. Here’s the lowdown: I’m the senior sound designer / managing director for a leading international sound library company who’s been successfully running a company that doesn’t belong to me for 6 years. I’ve exhausted this opportunity, as the company is limited in its ability to grow due to the owners methods. In short, although I still have my job (and could have it forever, so to speak), I need to get out. I’m striving to create an opportunity for myself (and potentially for some of the other amazing employees I’ve hired who are looking for better opportunities) by starting a new company, and I must act now as I am not getting any younger.. I’ve been thinking this through for almost 6 months now, and something seeming great has just happened. Can you help me make the most out of it? [more inside]
