I met a chap in July, and am now entirely done with dating unless widowed early. I would probably benefit from advice on relationships that go through the usual relationship stages at a rapid pace. With kid in tow. Assume 'don't do that' is not going to happen. [more inside]

I may be moving to Manchester, NH next year, and a business trip to the city next week will leave me with one afternoon free to scout around residential properties. What neighborhoods should I concentrate on if I'm looking for a one- or two-bedroom apartment (or house)? Having a small yard would be great; accessibility by bicycle to the city center is another plus. $1,200/month would be a comfortable rent. Less would be great, a little more would be possible if the dollar difference yielded significant benefits in other areas.

A little while back I stumbled upon a detective novel (Losers Live Longer) that takes place in 2009 NYC and utilizes actual city streets, restaurants, bars, etc. The writing was pretty average, but the book kept me constantly aware of the protagonist's location (oftentimes cross-streets). The real-world geography of areas I knew well really sucked me into the world and engaged me on another level than the narrative alone. Are there any other good detective or mystery novels that use post-2000s (or, better yet, post-2010) New York accurately? [more inside]

I recently read Finding Ultra by Rich Roll and was interested in make some changes similar to him in that I would like to go vegetarian or possibly Vegan. I purchased a few books, and was wondering how others have done with transitioning to a vegan diet? I'm hoping that eating more healthy will get me out of this rut that I am in. For those of you have gone vegan, did you learn to cook several meals before you made the change, or did you do something different? [more inside]

I was curious as to what others have done to find happiness once they have come to a complete system halt? Without going into too much detail, the last two years have been not very much fun. I finished my degree, but nothing really makes me very happy these days. I keep myself busy with volunteer work and I read a lot, but this has not resulted in any lasting happiness.

My wife and I have been looking for a bit fit a new house.
We have found something great that meets every criteria,
Upstairs there is one master bedroom and a study area that could not be used for anything else,
Plus a robe and a bathroom.
Downstairs there are 2 other bedrooms and a good living area etc.
My question is, how do u make it work with a new baby?
Is it possible to have the baby in tha main br for a few months,
Then move the baby downstairs with an intercom,
Or is that just stupidity?
Is there another way to think about it?
Appreciate any advice from those that have faced something similar,
As the house is auctioned in 2 weeks.

Cityson is graduating from a Western NY University. He's done great, and we're all as proud as we can be. About 8 family members are making the overnight trip, and would like to have a nice dinner after traveling on Friday, the evening before the ceremony, which is on Saturday, May 17. We're all staying at the same hotel in Bath, NY and Cityson requested a family restaurant meal rather than splitting up the extended family, as only a graduate and parents may attend the University-sponsored pregraduation dinner. I don't want to leave my own elderly parents and aunt to fend for themselves for dinner, either. The problem is that we've not eaten out at a restaurant nicer than a diner the entire time he's been a student, and have no idea where to go. [more inside]

My landlord just installed an alley gate between my building and another. It was in response to some attempted break-ins from the back of the walkup.
The problem is that when the door slams shut, it’s really loud and startling. On a Saturday, it slams shut very loudly around 20 or so times a day (not really an exaggeration). To me being the noise sensitive type, who gets a jolt of adrenalin each time it happens, this is a very bad addition to my already urban environs. [more inside]

Hello, darlings! How are we all today? Growing tall and strong? Good, good. That's what I like to hear. I must now commandeer your brains and I will give them back when I'm done. Years ago, I was out for a drive, and listening to the radio late at night. This would have been at the lower, collegey end of the FM dial. I want to say I was somewhere in Connecticut at the time. Total ballpark here, but I'd guess it was maybe something like 2006. I heard a song that I remember as being fun to listen to, and I wanted to find it again, and I have not been able to do so. In January, I got my business successfully running, paid off and closed a bunch of personal credit cards, and began making a decent amount of money. Now I'm in a place to start opening credit cards and rebuilding my credit. Last time I looked (10 years ago), there were ways to open new credit card accounts, and as long as you were responsible about always paying off all of your balances at the end of every month, you could get bunches of free flights and bonuses and things. I recall people who played with new account bonuses as a relatively lucrative game. Is this still a thing? Is it worth the time?

I have been trying to figure out artist and title of an 80's New Wave song that I have heard two or three times over the years. Kind of poppy, keyboard heavy with a female vocalist. I believe on of the lyrics is "Knock Me Down Like Bowlin' Pin," but there is always a possibility that I misheard the line. I have been searching google and yahoo and webcrawler, etc. off and on for years trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to be pointed towards an article that connects how NYC's investment in corporate and banking interests directly worsened the prospects of the poor and working class in NYC during the Bloomberg years. This should be intelligent but not too dense -- something that could be easily readable by college freshmen without background in social science, written in a style such as you'd find in the New Yorker, Atlantic, NY Times Mag, etc in style and difficulty level. Thanks!
Note: I **don't** need ethnographic stories focusing on people's lives, such as the Dasani article in the NY Times. (Those are great but I have plenty.) Rather I need a non-specialists' discussion of the structural connections between wealth and poverty in NYC, something explaining exactly why choices to invest in fancy buildings led to more homelessness -- for example, detailing how city money was diverted from x to y during these years.
