I have a new pc hooked up and it gets the Internet all the time, no problem checking e-mail, surfing or pinging anything on the WWW. However, I have intermittent problems remotely logging into that machine, either via ssh or vnc. If I ping the machine for long intervals of time, I've seen packet loss of around 90%. Does anybody have a good idea of where to start diagnosing this problem?

Windows XP, XP64, Vista, and Linux machines refuse to play nicely together - Why can't I get them to ping each other? I am trying to hook up a mixed network for file/print sharing, network gaming and the like, but I seem to be having basic IP issues and I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out the problem! I wish to rip DVDs to a Linux server and then watch them at my leisure on my TV via either a wired or wireless network. There appear to be countless devices that will stream videos (like this) but I haven't been able to tell which will play DVDs off a network (with menus and all) and which just stream plain-old-MPEGs. Has anyone got experience with a digital media gadget that will do this?
