What was this late night cartoon?

So when I was a kid, I used to watch a lot of Cartoon Network (in the late '90s). I vividly remember watching one about a man that got into a cloning machine, made clones of himself, and then got the clones and/or himself killed in the compacting/smashing machine next to it. Now I'm trying to figure out where to watch it again. [more inside]

Sure, We Can Fire Everyone... If You Want

I run a technology organization within a corporate environment and am struggling with the strict network security rules currently in place on our corporate network. After a lot of debate, I've been given an audience with the executives to try and sell them on why blocking everyday sites like Google, Evernote, Facebook, Reddit, etc is evil and leads to people hating us as a corporation. I need your help! Most specifically, I want to hear from those of you that work for technology organizations (Apple, Google, Facebook, Netflix, Yahoo, etc)... what restrictions are in place for you? What is your experience? [more inside]

Looking for a specific advert from around 2009 in the UK...

Hi there I am trying to find an advert from around 2009 that, as I remember it was... 1) For a mobile phone network (although not a major one); 2) Depicted a purple cartoon-like character holding a spray can or a marker; and 3) Had a "graffiti" style typeface or logo. This advert ran on the London Underground, however, due to LU's advertising policy, it was the logo and character were edited so they bore no reference to graffiti. Please help!

Expert networkers: Help me routinize my networking

I've been freelancing in my profession for about a year. I've always been a huge believer in networking and I'd consider myself an above-average networker. But lately I've been struggling with making the time to keep my network fresh. I get busy with project details and other aspects of being my own manager, and I don't send the emails I need to send, or follow-up promptly enough (for my tastes anyway) with fresh contacts. Rebroadcasting video from a subnet

I run a science support network with frequent visitors and high turnover. A current project has two devices incorporating Axis webcams on a dedicated subnet. I have one laptop which is wired to the subnet and wireless on my “host” network. We don’t want to enable full routing to the subnet, so I want to use the laptop to re-broadcast the video from the two webcams onto the host network. The laptop (Windows 8) can see both the subnet and the host network, and machines on the host network can see the laptop. [more inside]

Why will videos not play on my home network?

For some reason my laptop will not play videos on my home network. The sole exception is when I view youtube videos on the youtube site itself. The video players will load, but then wait to buffer the video without ever loading anything. I have no issues on other networks than my home network, and I have no issues with other devices or laptops, other than my personal laptop, even on my home network. And what is so special about the youtube site that makes it immune to the problem? I have tried using other browsers, and the behaviour persists. [more inside]

Streaming video around the house

I ripped a bunch of my DVDs to my Mac so that I could put the cases in storage. Currently, the files sit on my hard drive on my Mac Pro, and when I want to watch something, I copy the relevant file to a USB stick and walk it upstairs to the TV, where the Blu Ray player has a USB input. Is there an easier way to get these files onto my TV (and ideally, iPads/iPhones) than walking the file around the house? We're an all-Mac household. [more inside]

Network drive for windows?

Our small office (Windows 7) had a Western Digital My Book World Edition drive. This drive attached itself to the network so everyone could see it, but mostly it was used for backups of our backups. Now the drive seems to be dying and we're looking at replacing it, but WorldBook edition don't seem to made anymore. Can anyone verify that? And if so, point us to similar type of drive, preferably 2 or more terabytes for a Windows 7 office. Does the MyBook line do anything like this? We already have a server that's managed by our IT department. This other drive is mostly just a secondary backup with storage of a few other video files on it.

Need help securing/troubleshooting my household WiFi Network

I am incredibly geeky (though I certainly know geeks who are moreso) and somewhat hackerish, been running my household WiFi and Wired network to dozens of devices for several years and everything was fine until my Mom's new housesitter brought a laptop into the network that was profoundly infected with various malware. I THINK the malware issue is still contained to his laptop but household broadband utilization went from 200 - 300 GB per month in January/February to more than 650 GB in March and we're still racking up 10-12 GB per day in April. I need help with what to do without alienating anyone and what I can do to support the housesitter while he also works locally on his computer to remove the malware. Brainstorming, new techniques, anything like that would be helpful. [more inside]

Playstations not playing well with NAT?

Which isn't quite as applicable to my enterprise-level Juniper SRX firewalls. Anyone have pointers to a more enterprise-level technical documentation on this? Throttle Application bandwidth by Process, not by port or host

I'm using Bitcasa to back up things, but it doesn't have builtin bandwidth upload throttling. So consequently it sucks up all the bandwidth and the entire houses network comes to a stop. This also happens to make browsing the web impossible. This would be easy to do if Bitcasa used a nonstandard port, but it uses 433 to upload to Amazon's EC. I have other applications that also need full bandwidth to EC (intermittently), so throttling those domains won't work either. What I really need is an application specific throttling App . Help?
