A friend from out of state (US) has asked if they could use my address to be considered to be in my city's insurance network, thereby saving them a lot of cost. I realize this is insurance fraud. I'm going to turn them down, but what would be the potential ramifications if I didn't?
Where do small business owners ask for advice online? I know many use Linkedin groups. What are some of the more popular social networks for "mom and pop" business owners to ask for advice and to share? Many thanks, Zach
There are plenty of tools to help someone build and customize a website without needing to know coding; Wix, Serif, Network Solutions and Go Daddy website builders. Likewise, are there similar tools to help someone build and easily customize mobile apps without knowing code? If so, what and where are they?
Are there any networks where HR firms, employment agencies, and screening companies share tips and info? This could be Facebook or LinkedIn groups, even trade type organizations.

I have just bought the Netgear N300 WiFi Range Extender (EX2700), and followed the instructions to the letter. I connect to the extender, tell it which network to extend, put in the router password, and get to "name your extended network." I leave the default name and security and click "continue." NOTHING HAPPENS. Please help. [more inside]
I have several websites that are hosted through Network Solutions. Since April, I've noticed more and more malware that is blocking my access to my websites. Only the sites on this provider are infected. Until this year (and for the 8 previous years on one of the three sites), I've never had any malware or infections. The provider offered me a new service where they monitor my sites and tell me how much malware is infecting them. I already know they are infected and inaccessible. They also say they can disinfect my sites for an additional $6.99/mo. Isn't it their responsibility to keep malware off their server that can infect account holder sites? Is this a legitimate ask by them?

Trying to get some info so I can try keep using Evernote and Trello at work. I'm having to deal with what seems quite ridiculous at work. Apparently something bad might come in through Evernote because it's a cloud and clouds aren't good. Could my cloudy Evernote 'pollute' the network somehow? Are these sorts of cloudy apps really such a super serious concern that all big corporate companies ban their use? We were told that this was the case at 'really big recognizable company'. (I do know about downloading attachments etc) [more inside]
Our university site used to be hosted on the campus servers. While it was there, people on the campus network were able to type just "www" and it would redirect to the full site. We've recently changed to hosting on wpengine, and now www brings up a 404 page. [more inside]
Looking for a solution for a small group so that we could download an app and join the app's community and then in an emergency, for example, push an SOS button and all of the people in the community would get an alert on their phones (if they're connected of course) of the emergency. I know there are solutions similar to this but my app searching skills are failing me. [more inside]

Remembering who someone is has been a roadblock to successful networking in the past – but in my new job, I have more people to remember than ever. I’d like to know what you, as someone who also has trouble remembering names and faces, has done to keep track of a large network. I am not looking for mnemonic tricks to remember one or several specific names. I’m hoping more for something like “Everyone I meet goes in my electronic rolodex that I update with X information after each meeting.” [more inside]
Do you think I can build a network and find a job in technical communication despite living in the country with no STC chapter? My foundation is decent: an English degree and current technical job. hello, I have this strange problem at my Asus x201e Laptop: (win8, 64) I have access to the internet from the browser and other apps, but the dropbox app cannot access the server and sync. from any other network (not from my home) my dropbox app can access the server, even further.. from my computer when I connect to the Internet via VPN connection the dropbox app can sync to the server, as well as at safe-mode. I have tried everything I can in the direction of the network settings, nothing helped.. Does anyone can evaluate the direction to solve my problem ? Many Thanks.
So when I was a kid, I used to watch a lot of Cartoon Network (in the late '90s). I vividly remember watching one about a man that got into a cloning machine, made clones of himself, and then got the clones and/or himself killed in the compacting/smashing machine next to it. Now I'm trying to figure out where to watch it again. [more inside]
I run a technology organization within a corporate environment and am struggling with the strict network security rules currently in place on our corporate network. After a lot of debate, I've been given an audience with the executives to try and sell them on why blocking everyday sites like Google, Evernote, Facebook, Reddit, etc is evil and leads to people hating us as a corporation. I need your help! Most specifically, I want to hear from those of you that work for technology organizations (Apple, Google, Facebook, Netflix, Yahoo, etc)... what restrictions are in place for you? What is your experience? [more inside]
I'd like to use the LAN at work to push music out to remote speakers throughout the building. The speakers would be wired into the LAN, and the music would be streamed from a single PC running iTunes (or something similar -- it doesn't have to be iTunes itself). [more inside]
I'm going to be traveling a fair amount over the holidays which means I'll likely be on public WiFi a lot more than usual, and with all of the various security and privacy issues that have popped up in the news recently, I figure the time is ripe to figure out a VPN strategy (since not everything I do is over SSL/HTTPS). Hi there I am trying to find an advert from around 2009 that, as I remember it was... 1) For a mobile phone network (although not a major one); 2) Depicted a purple cartoon-like character holding a spray can or a marker; and 3) Had a "graffiti" style typeface or logo. This advert ran on the London Underground, however, due to LU's advertising policy, it was the logo and character were edited so they bore no reference to graffiti. Please help!

I've been freelancing in my profession for about a year. I've always been a huge believer in networking and I'd consider myself an above-average networker. But lately I've been struggling with making the time to keep my network fresh. I get busy with project details and other aspects of being my own manager, and I don't send the emails I need to send, or follow-up promptly enough (for my tastes anyway) with fresh contacts. Looking for tips and tricks to make space for networking in my day. [more inside]

I run a science support network with frequent visitors and high turnover. A current project has two devices incorporating Axis webcams on a dedicated subnet. I have one laptop which is wired to the subnet and wireless on my “host” network. We don’t want to enable full routing to the subnet, so I want to use the laptop to re-broadcast the video from the two webcams onto the host network. The laptop (Windows 8) can see both the subnet and the host network, and machines on the host network can see the laptop. [more inside]

For some reason my laptop will not play videos on my home network. The sole exception is when I view youtube videos on the youtube site itself. The video players will load, but then wait to buffer the video without ever loading anything. I have no issues on other networks than my home network, and I have no issues with other devices or laptops, other than my personal laptop, even on my home network. And what is so special about the youtube site that makes it immune to the problem? I have tried using other browsers, and the behaviour persists. [more inside]
I ripped a bunch of my DVDs to my Mac so that I could put the cases in storage. Currently, the files sit on my hard drive on my Mac Pro, and when I want to watch something, I copy the relevant file to a USB stick and walk it upstairs to the TV, where the Blu Ray player has a USB input. Is there an easier way to get these files onto my TV (and ideally, iPads/iPhones) than walking the file around the house? We're an all-Mac household. [more inside]
I'm in the weird position of being halfway through a psych/programming/IT degree meant to train me as a user interface expert. I'm taking a year off to work. I want to learn more about networks, networking, and network security. I want to learn more about computer security in general, best practices to follow. I want to eventually get a non-glamorous job in tech support or similar to pay the bills until I work my way up. Are any of the current computer/tech/IT certifications worth pursuing? [more inside]
Our small office (Windows 7) had a Western Digital My Book World Edition drive. This drive attached itself to the network so everyone could see it, but mostly it was used for backups of our backups. Now the drive seems to be dying and we're looking at replacing it, but WorldBook edition don't seem to made anymore. Can anyone verify that? And if so, point us to similar type of drive, preferably 2 or more terabytes for a Windows 7 office. Does the MyBook line do anything like this? We already have a server that's managed by our IT department. This other drive is mostly just a secondary backup with storage of a few other video files on it.

I would like to connect two homes that are about 150m apart in order to share an internet connection. Unless convinced otherwise the cheapest solution is likely a point-to-point wireless link at 2.4ghz (using directional antennas and tomatousb/ddwrt). I have line of sight but there are some trees in the way: is this feasible? Bonus: will cheap 14 dbi panel antennas be good enough with the trees?
