We have Netflix and Amazon Prime. What should we watch? Shows we have liked: The Wire, Gilmore Girls, Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica, Community, Arrested Development, House of Cards, Orphan Black, Twin Peaks. Shows that we didn't like under the fold. [more inside]

When I open the Netflix app on my iPad, at the top of the page is a video that autoplays, I guess a trailer for a Netflix show. This is enraging. I can't see how to disable it. Is it possible?
I like watching documentaries, but most of them have agonizingly slow narration - is there a way (bonus points for doing so on a Roku) to speed up Amazon Prime or Netflix films? [more inside]
I am and American and will be spending a quarter studying abroad in Berlin this spring, and I am wondering if my numerous media accounts will work while I am there? [more inside]

Over the past few months I have been watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix for the first time - I never watched while the series was on TV - and for the most part, I have really enjoyed it. However I recently started Season 6 (out of 7) and have not been super pleased with it so far. Given that a revival seems to be in the cards, should I power through? [more inside]
Looking for some advice on HTPC software. I really have just two requirements: Netflix compatibility and good video library management. [more inside]
My SO and I love watching Halloween-themed stuff this time of year. What are some awesome Halloween episodes of TV shows that are available on Netflix, HBO Go or Amazon Prime? Among the various banal details involved in the actual household-dividing of a breakup, it no longer seems quite appropriate to share my ex's Netflix account. I had my own profile within the account; her profile is the primary. How do I translate my profile into an independent account? [more inside]
My fiancé and I like to watch television together, but our schedules are unusually busy this summer, so our usual 45 minutes shows aren't cutting it. Any recommendations for excellent 21-30 minute programs? [more inside]
Those of you with a Roku / Chromecast / Apple TV / etc. probably know the drill – you spend more time browsing listings trying to find something you want to watch, than actually watching something. (And browsing with a TV remote is a tedious, ineffective chore.) Does an independent, comprehensive TV guide exist? [more inside]
I obviously need a little help with Netflix. Am I doing something wrong? Missing titles in My List, etc. Extended Details included.... [more inside]

I've been trying to find shows to watch streaming (Netflix US or Amazon Prime) that are interesting and entertaining without being cynical, negative, and/or over-the-top violent and gory, after realizing a lot of things I had been watching were pretty dark. Does anyone have any recommendations? [more inside]

Anyone know of a dependable encyclopedia for song credits? [more inside]
Amazon and Netflix are now producing boatloads of original content. w00t! Cord cutters rejoice! I love that they are making all this content that cord cutters don't have to get locked out of. I really want to watch and support a lot of these shows. The only thing is, I get the feeling they are producing quantity a bit more than quality. Help me unearth the gems of Netflix and Amazon originals. [more inside]
My laptop is a Dell Latitude E4300, and it runs Windows 7 Professional. I have home wifi through Charter. Though my signal always tests strong, I have a lot of issues with video playback on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, pretty much all streaming sites. The video gets slow or stutters or there are sync problems with audio/video. It doesn't matter which browser I use. I've tried lots of things, which I have listed below the cut, but none of them have really helped. [more inside]
I am working on diversifying my pop culture experience and am feeling limited by what Netflix thinks I should watch. Please recommend some of your favorite movies, TV shows, and documentaries streaming on Netflix that would help me expand my pop culture diet - especially if they are directed by/acted by/about women, people of color, and people outside the upper middle class New York/LA milieu.
I'm seeing closed captioning when I don't think I should. [more inside]
What do you do when Netflix fails you? Netflix used to have a long tail of movies that weren't blockbusters. But they seem to be steadily chopping it off: the 'Saved' section of my queue keeps increasing. [more inside]
Where do you go to find out about really cool indie films? Just saw a trailer for the movie A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and thought it looked amazing (to give you an idea of the kind of movies I'm looking for). I'd like to find a blog or website with reviews for indie movies like this one that don't necessarily make it out to theaters or get reviewed in major publications. [more inside]

Are there Chrome or Firefox add-ons that allow one to play Netflix content at double/triple speed? Seems unlikely since Netflix utilizes Silverlight and Googling hasn't turned up any useful options, but I figured it was worth checking. Alternately, are there add-ons that allow double/triple speed for streaming video sites other than Youtube?
I like dark and/or intriguing television shows. I like shows with interesting characters and long pay offs. What I do not like are any sudden scenes with violence against women or children. I have access to all counties of Netflix but no other streaming services. What can I watch? [more inside]

I would like to buy a very small (20" to 25") television for my study. I would like to watch DVDs, Netflix, movies & TV from iTunes, and maybe even some over-the-air network shows. But I bought my last TV used in 1992 and all I had to worry about was an antenna. (It had a sweet integrated VCR. I taped Twin Peaks off the air. It was the best of times!) I know nothing, and am bewildered by the options. Help? [more inside]
My 7-year-old enjoyed watching Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away at home, on Netflix. She became fascinated with the costumes and weird characters, the acrobatic scenes in strange settings, and didn't seem bothered by the fact that there was only a loose plot and virtually no dialogue ("It's like a dream," she said). What are other similar, surreal dreamy movies on Netflix that she might like?
I am considering a set-top box for commercial video-streaming. An Amazon Fire TV + Amazon Prime + Netflix subscription sounds pretty good. Should I be looking at other hardware or services? [more inside]
I stream art documentaries on Netflix while I work. (Having something playing on the 2nd monitor is acceptable at my job.) I've watched enough that the top three recommendations at the bottom of the page are almost always films I've already seen, but I want to keep this habit up another month! [more inside]
In anticipation of season two's release this week, I've been re-watching season one of House of Cards. About eight minutes into the ninth episode, Peter Russo is being interviewed by a New York Times journalist. The man records their conversation using the device in this screenshot. I remember being intrigued by this voice recorder while watching the show last year, but could not find out the make or model. My interest is once again piqued. Googling has gotten me nowhere. Do you know what it is?
We're having friends over on Friday to partake in non-romantic love and closeness. There will be a pillow pit in the TV room. What are movies we can put on that fit the mood of the evening? [more inside]

My family and I are going to be out of the country for the next month, and we'd really like to watch the new season of House of Cards when it premiers on Valentines day. Does anybody have any advice on how to do this? Right now, I'm planning to get a TP-LINK TL-MR3020 router, install OpenWRT (and OpenVPN?) on it to configure it to access a States-side VPN, and stream Netflix to a Chromecast in our hotel room. Will this work? [more inside]
I've got the landlord coming on Monday to do something mysterious to my appliances and my apartment is a slight disaster area. The only way I can stomach cleaning for extended periods is to watch a show or movie in an alternating schedule--20 minutes of cleaning, 20 minutes of watching, rinse and repeat. I need more stuff to watch. [more inside]
Please give me recommendations for feel-good TV shows and movies that are available on Netflix streaming or Amazon Prime to help get me through a tough time. [more inside]
I'm looking for a good TV show for my parents to watch that has at least a few seasons available for streaming on Netflix. They really like medieval, wizardy, lords and ladies types of shows, and period dramas in general. Nothing too complicated or upsetting, though. [more inside]
The film streaming search engine Can I Stream It? looks very useful but only covers the US. Does anyone know of a UK version? Find Any Film is similar but doesn't cover subscription services like Netflix or Lovefilm.
