I am traveling to NYC and then to NJ for an important visit, and I would like to bring a big, bright, colorful, and cheerful bouquet. [more inside]
I'm a woman in my late 40s, haven't dated in a while, and was just set up with someone. We met for a drink, and it went all right. No electric sparks, but no terrible STOP signs either. He seems like a good guy, and I want to give it a chance, but since I didn't feel a strong attraction or flirty vibe, I'd like to do something for our next date OTHER than simply going out to dinner. What are some good date ideas for people our age, in NYC?

What public creative person (defined pretty broadly, but hopefully at least somewhat famous) has a really cool office in the NYC area? We're looking for someone with a rich, interesting-looking space, interesting tools and great stories. Examples might be say, magazine writer Gay Talese, who works in his townhouse in Manhattan surrounded by memorabilia from all his past stories, or the honchos at Pixar who have special secret hideaways and whatnot. (Definitely looking for personal workspaces, not big companies with fancy buildings and foosball tables.)
No, seriously, why am I having zero luck? I ended a long-term relationship in June. I'm still getting over it, but I want to get back on that damn horse. I moved to NYC for grad school in August, and I have had zero (literally, 0) luck with men since the breakup. [more inside]
Please recommend a good course to learn more about playwrighting and/or more resources to learn how to do so/NYC city based but open to other locations. [more inside]
Last year, I unexpectedly fell in love with improv comedy. I raced through the classes, joined a team, and started performing shows on tiny stages throughout NYC. It's been a rewarding experience! Except: I'm a 32 year-old introvert, and hanging out with mid-20s performers feels weird AF. [more inside]
My boyfriend and I are taking a spontaneous trip to NYC. We will be getting in Sunday afternoon and will be staying until early Monday evening. What amazing things should we do, and where should we eat, in this very short amount of time? [more inside]

Someone I know is moving closer to NYC soon and is looking for information about how to best navigate the city. She is confined to a scooter and has extremely limited mobility. What resources can I give her? This would be more for periodic visits, not day-to-day commuting. I already know about the MTA's homepage for accessibility and the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. What else is there? [more inside]
I was mugged on my way home 2 nights ago. I wasn't hurt, but presumably that's because the attackers were only interested in my iphone and ipod, which they took. I'm relatively new to my neighborhood and have never been the victim of crime before, despite my 20 years in NYC. Have you? What did you do/not do in order to move past the incident and stay safe? [more inside]
I'm a guy and I want a waxing. Two-part question: (1) Do I have to be careful where I get this done, or can I go to any old place? (2) If I need to go somewhere reliable, any recommendations in Manhattan?

We're driving up for a wedding from DC to Boston, and decided to take our time on our way north! What are some fun attractions along the route that we could hit? We'll be driving on 95, past Philly, NYC, New Haven, and Providence. Our interests tend towards the foodie, the wacky, and the scenic. We're open to driving off the route for a ways. Hive mind, what are your suggestions?

Hi, I have a classic NYC problem that I'm sure has a simple solution. Old couch, walk up apartment, desire to replace old couch (or do we say sofa, I'm never sure) with a new one. How do people do this? [more inside]
Like it says in the title - how do I go about getting a vasectomy. Is this the sort of thing I speak with my primary care physician about? What about minimizing cost? Do I speak with my insurer and find out what common and customary is? [more inside]
Language learning questions here tend to get a lot of "watch Univision, listen to podcasts, converse with native speakers" types of answers, which are great. I will probably utilize some of those things, but I'd really like to take a class because I would benefit from the externally imposed structure. [more inside]

Where can I find those cheap dollar store pregnancy tests in NYC *right now*? This shouldn't be that hard, but all the cheap-o dollar stores in my neighborhood don't seem to carry them anymore. Do you know of a store in Brooklyn (preferably off the B/Q) or in Manhattan (south of 34th St, also preferably off the B/Q) that carries those super cheap at-home pregnancy tests? [more inside]

Going with a buddy to NYC next weekend to wander through the Eldridge Street Museum, the MMA Cloisters, and other beautiful things with stained glass, carved stone, and old wood. Where should we eat/drink that is also beautiful, but relatively low-key? (Not that I mind skyscrapers and we both love industrial-beautiful/abandoned places, but we both hate lines/crazy crowds)
I'm an amateur screen printer and I've just moved to NYC. I've just pulled my first print since moving but I can't get the screen reclaimed with just my shower's pressure. Ideas? [more inside]
On a Sunday in September, we have a six hour Amtrak layover (11 am to 5 pm) at Penn Station, with our nine year old son in tow (so, probably 4 and a half usable hours). I know we can get to the top of the Empire State and back pretty easily, is there something else quick and easy we should do during that time?
[Asking for a friend] My building had a fire last night, on the floor below mine. I have middling fire damage at baseboard level in both bedrooms, both of which will be uninhabitable until the damage is ripped out and redone. All my windows are broken and glass is everywhere, but aside from the above stuff and the overwhelming odor of smoke and my broken-down front door, there is no other (water or fire or smoke stain) damage to the apartment. This is in NYC, and I have no renter's insurance. [more inside]
I live in New York City and I have a friend coming into town in a few weeks who is going through alcohol recovery. I'm looking for things to do in the city with them that lessen the presence of alcohol in the environment. [more inside]
I recently bought a corset for a friend of mine. She looks killer drop-dead amazing gorgeous in it. We'd like to go out to dinner somewhere in NYC where such attire would be both appreciated and fit in. (She'll probably pair it with pants—nothing fetish-y. I'll do my level best to look sharp, but I can hardly compete.) All suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

What it says on the tin. I need a good backend developer for a nonprofit project, preferably in NYC, and none of my usual channels are panning out. Where's the best place to recruit?
My boyfriend and I currently live in NYC. We hate it - we're tired of the noise, the garbage, the tiny apartments and the high prices for nearly everything. But we're considering having a baby in the next few years, and both our families are nearby - should we stay for family support or move to a location where we would likely be happier? [more inside]
In the greater NYC area, when having a child baptized in a small private Catholic ceremony, is it normal/accepted/expected to invite the nun and the priest participating to a restaurant lunch after the service? Also in addition to the offering for the baptism, should the parents give an additional, uh, tip? To the priest and nun since they are living off a small stipend.
I just read some essays by New York intellectual and feminist writer Katha Politt. Not only is she a fantastic writer, but reading about her NYC literary and intellectual circles gives me a wonderful feeling of being at home. What are some other books that will do this? What are some ways to get more of this experience in my life? [more inside]
I have an alto saxophone that I would no longer like to keep lugging around as I move over and over again. It is worth more than I am willing to deal with myself: I've never sold anything worth more than $200 on ebay/craigslist. I can easily reach anywhere in New York City or environs, so I imagine there are a lot of places that would buy it from me. Is there any place in particular I should go? What should I expect their markup to be? Is this even a good idea? [more inside]
Basically an updated version of this question. Looking for shots of Times Square in the movies. Extra points for recent films. Thanks!
After thinking I had major sinus problems for the past year, I now think I'm allergic to down and/or wool. (Based on intense facial pain, headache and congestion for the entire day after sleeping with those beddiings, and none without- I just did a personal 3 day experiment). However, I did allergy tests this year and they came up negative. Can you get specific testing for these items? Has anyone experienced this? Do allergies really just appear at 'a certain age'? If so, can anyone recommend a good allergist in NYC?
