Running in NYC: Hudson River Greenway to Inwood?

Planning a trip to Manhattan soon. I'll be staying in the Meatpacking District, and am thinking about taking a long run one day up to the Inwood Hill Park along the Hudson River Greenway. My friend who runs that path regularly isn't sure whether it goes that far, so I'm wondering if anyone familiar with the area knows if you can go all the way to the northern tip of the island along that path. Also, any tips about water, bathrooms, or general "heads up" info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Used RPGs in NYC?

My wife and I will be making a trip to NYC this weekend. While we're out and about, I'd like to keep my eyes open for some used RPGs, specifically 1st or 2nd ed Dungeons and Dragons. Where should I look? I know I can get things cheaper online (online recommendations also welcomed for extra XP), but I need to actually examine the books to see if they fit my needs. [more inside]

Weird NYC & DC! RIYL Mütter Museum, Body Worlds, anatomical collections?

My favorite place in the entire world is Philadelphia's exquisite and incomparable Mütter Museum, I've seen Body Worlds more than a dozen times... and you should probably refrain from clicking either of those links if you are squeamish. I will soon be spending a week in NYC followed by a week in Washington, DC. Can you help me make a list of similar museums, exhibits, and collections to visit while I'm there? [more inside]

How to find a good balloon twister in Northern New Jersey / New York?

We're looking to a hire a good balloon twister / balloon artist for my kid's birthday party in Northern New Jersey but we can't find a Yelp equivalent for suggestions, and we don't want to pick one randomly from the Google results. Can anyone give us some suggestions? We're pretty close to New York City so someone from there would be fine as well.

What to do on a free afternoon next Wednesday in Manhattan?

Turns out we will have a few free hours next Wednesday (4/23) afternoon in NYC after an appointment and before the bus ride home. Can you suggest interesting things to do for folks who've seen most of the major museums multiple times, like to stroll but not hike, are comfortable with the subway, and are nerdy? Probably don't have time to take train or bus to outer boroughs, unfortunately, otherwise we'd probably just head to the Brooklyn Botanical gardens and look at the flowering trees, which must be revving up about now. Additional points for good but not super expensive restaurants on Upper East or Midtown East to have lunch after the appointment, like all kinds of ethnic foods but avoid pork. Many thanks; I've been looking though lots of listings but always get a bit overwhelmed by Time Out and the like.

What do we need to know before buying our first used car?

My gal and are buying a used Jeep Cherokee. We live in Brooklyn and want to put our minds at ease that this is a decent buy for what we're looking for. When they kick out your front door, how you gonna come?

A friend of mine, a NYC resident with no firearm permit from the NYPD, recently purchased a rifle at a gun show in PA (apparently the dealer didn't recognize his address as being within NYC and didn't ask him for a permit, as NY state residents can purchase rifles without one). He says he does plan on applying for the necessary permit, but in the meantime is storing the rifle in his home. How likely is he to get into any trouble? [more inside]

overnight camping trips from Manhattan?

Two of my friends want to go on an overnight camping trip starting from Manhattan, but separately. So I'm looking for one place where we could camp overnight that's within a 30-60 mile bike ride of public transportation, and another place where we could camp overnight that's within a few miles' walk of public transportation. The bike site could be either a prepared camp site or just a place where people won't mind us pitching a tent; the walking site really has to be approved for camping. non-standard question about move from nyc to montreal

I currently work in NYC for a large multinational financial services company. I'm in a contract position here, which is due to be renewed in August (which possibly might not be). They've internally offered me a full-time position in Montreal, and I don't know if I should take the offer (which is flat on salary. 110k/yr). I can probably find a similar position in NYC, but it'd be a contract position, and I really like the culture of the company I work for and I guess I'd rather have the job security of a full time position right now... huge snowflake inside. Can you help me find a therapist I remember reading about in NYC?

I was using an online "therapist finder" (Probably Psychology Today but I can't be certain) about 6 weeks ago to find myself a therapist. I had come across one in particular that I thought I saved a link to, but now can't find. I know it was a woman, and she mentioned dogs in her description/bio - both that she was a dog owner and lover, but also that her dog could sometimes be present for therapy, and/or you could bring your dog. I know that's not unheard of, but her description really resonated with me in terms of what I need right now in a therapist and I am hoping someone might recognize my description. Thank you!

Best time for a first time visit to NYC

A close family member will be turning 21 next January (toward the end of the month). I'd like to surprise her with a weekend trip to NYC in honor of her birthday. She has never been before and loves to travel, and I think it will make a great memory. Here's the rub: I can't decide whether to 1) go on her actual birthday (pro: we'll be there on her actual birthday and con: January is kinda dreary), 2) celebrate her birthday early and go during the Christmas season (pro: Christmastime in NYC is so special), or 3) celebrate her birthday at home and go when it warms up, possibly late May (pro: it will be nice to stroll the neighborhoods and not shiver). What do you guys think?

Is Fort Lee, New Jersey, Within the Port District of NY and NJ?

This is essentially a legal question. Is Fort Lee New Jersey within the Port District of New York and New Jersey? I want to know if Fort Lee, New Jersey, is within that area. The exact description, which I have no idea how to plot is below.
