Even though they're not quite in season, can I buy persimmons (Hachiya persimmons, specifically) in NYC this week? Brooklyn or Manhattan, preferably.

I work in West Harlem on 135th St. and 8th Ave. I love all types of food, but especially meaty, flavorful foods like oxtail stew. Where should I go? I'm a grad student with a 45-minute lunch break, so the cheaper and closer to work, the better!

My friends and I live in NYC. We want to spend a night at a local beach (Far Rockaway, Sandy Hook, Fire Island, whatever). Ideally, this would consist of a trip via public transit to a beach, and then staying at a reasonably priced hotel close to said beach. If possible, we'd like to avoid renting a car or splurging on a vacation rental.

Can I buy
this dress if it's a) three sizes too big and b) I need to add sleeves? What would the cost be like? Should I ask someone on Etsy to make something similar instead?

Is it possible to get
this dress let out a little (made larger) without it looking obvious? Or should I send it back? Bonus points for good-but-inexpensive seamstress/tailor recommendations in NYC/Brooklyn!

My boyfriend and I need to go on an all-day date in NYC and Brooklyn this Saturday. We're native New Yorkers, so we don't need to see the Statue of Liberty or every art exhibit, but we'd prefer something other than watching Hulu at home. So what do we do?

Three of us moved into a four-floor brownstone on November 1. The next month the landlady died. Since then we've been dealing with her niece, who is very kind and a good substitute landlady. But now there's some familial dispute and it turns either the landlady died intestate or the will simply hasn't been found yet. The niece's lawyer advised her to give keys to the other family members involved, which freaks us all out.

My boyfriend and I want to purchase used adjustable dumbbells that go up to 75lbs each (150lbs total) in the NYC area. We'd prefer to avoid shelling out $500. They're quite expensive, and Craigslist isn't dredging up much in the NYC area. Where else should we try?

I was a dolt and missed the deadline to ship my Mom's
potential Christmas gift to my parent's house before I left town. So now I'm left with one weekend in NYC to find her something pretty for the home that's also small enough to fit in a carry-on suitcase. I need recommendations for classy, inexpensive stores in NYC that carry unique and/or handmade bowls, candle holders, tableware, etc for under $80.
