Where in NYC where I can find rugbrød? (a Danish/Scandinavian rye bread, heavily studded with seeds and deliciousities?) [more inside]
I recently bought a corset for a friend of mine. She looks killer drop-dead amazing gorgeous in it. We'd like to go out to dinner somewhere in NYC where such attire would be both appreciated and fit in. (She'll probably pair it with pants—nothing fetish-y. I'll do my level best to look sharp, but I can hardly compete.) All suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

What it says on the tin. I need a good backend developer for a nonprofit project, preferably in NYC, and none of my usual channels are panning out. Where's the best place to recruit?
My boyfriend and I currently live in NYC. We hate it - we're tired of the noise, the garbage, the tiny apartments and the high prices for nearly everything. But we're considering having a baby in the next few years, and both our families are nearby - should we stay for family support or move to a location where we would likely be happier? [more inside]
I live in New York City, and I'm thinking of buying a folding bike. Where can I rent a Dahon folding bicycle so I can try it out? [more inside]
Hiring for an just-past entry-level position in NYC (3 years or so of experience). The job requires long hours (50 a week, but with a 2 hour break) and intelligence, but is not technical or specialized in nature. Candidates have primarily been mid-late 20s and single. What's a reasonable wage that will allow this person to have a comfortable but not lavish life (own room in an apartment with reasonable commute to Manhattan, heathy diet, retirement savings, etc.)? Generous vacation policy, sick days, etc., and health insurance will be covered. [more inside]
I'm looking for a place in NYC, or a place online if they deliver quickly, to buy some of the stranger flavors (to an American palate) of Japanese Fanta. [more inside]

Asking for a friend: I want to start an LLC in NYC and sell yummy sweet things. Most of the requirements are pretty straightforward, but the newspaper publication requirement runs over a thousand dollars! Is there any way to get around having to pay such crazy high Certificate of Publication fees? (I am in Queens, if it makes a difference.) Thanks!!
Looking for recommendations for places to buy corsets, both in NYC and online. I am familiar with Orchard Corset. Thanks for any other ideas!

I'm trying to track down a very unusual gate on a NYC sidewalk. (A friend posted a photo of it on Facebook, challenging us to find it ourselves — she won't give us any clues.) It's a brown, cast-iron gate, with a thick circle in the middle, and there are 11 single-dial combination locks (which look like this) irregularly spaced inside the circle. [more inside]

A friend wants to get that witty romantic 70s NY film fix without the obvious choice of Woody Allen. What are other films in that same genre?
We're thinking about making a quick visit to Manhattan the day after visiting my family in the Hudson Valley for Christmas. Is this a bad idea? If we decide to do it, what (other than the Midtown Xmas dept store display / Rockefeller Center sights, which I know about) would be good activities, including cheap but yummy lunch options, we might not have thought of. For reference, we visit NY a couple times a year, have done so by both train and car, just not usually at the holidays.
I would like to gift some wine to a friend in Manhattan. What's the best way to do this? [more inside]
Hi, I am looking for some information and advice about getting a divorce in NYC. I am hoping for a no-contest mutual agreement divorce but there is a chance that it might be contested if my spouse starts having second thoughts. Both of us are from India and are here on work visa, with she being on my dependent work visa. Due to time, job and corruption considerations, going to India and getting a divorce there would be problematic. [more inside]

We are looking into buying a single family or multi-family house in NYC within easy commuting distance to midtown. Budget is $1 million to maybe $1.2 million. We currently live in Williamsburg and are priced out, otherwise it would be the perfect neighborhood. Astoria Queens seems like a great option, and Jersey City has even nicer houses but I know less about the area. And are there neighborhoods we are overlooking? Longer criteria list inside. Finally, after 10 years I'm visiting new York City again. I guess the city have changed a lot. I'm there for about 10 days, and I'm really into used records. Can MeFi recommend good shops for used (or not) records? Perhaps other shops for turntable lovers? Thanks.

You are not my lawyer. About 5 months ago I broke my lease on an apartment in Queens (NYC). I was worried that the landlord wouldn't find a new tenant in time for the next month but luckily he did. I asked about the security deposit and he said it was on its way. Now he's claiming that I'm not owed the money back. [more inside]
I have to bring my 15 year old son to New York City with me over the Columbus Day weekend and am looking for ideas for entertaining him. He's a hard core online gamer (WoW, TF2, Smite and most other Steam games) and has little other interests right now. Is there any place in NYC– preferably Manhattan– that might be of interest to him? Are there any local hangouts where such gamers converge, maybe a shop that sells things that gamers love, or just anything, really, that a teenager gamer might find interesting?
Mefite New Yorkers, lend me your ears! And thoughts. I'm interested in getting an iPhone 6 tomorrow (AT&T) but not sure where to go to maximize my chances of getting one. Definitely going to avoid the Apple stores, so I'm thinking AT&T stores are my best shot. Thoughts on the best place to get a phone? Better to go to midtown near work? Or stay on the Upper West Side (where I live) and try one of the stores around here?

I want to buy four or five interesting posters to fill up my blank walls in my new place and make it feel like 'mine'. I'd prefer to pick them out in person, rather than buying online. I'm especially interested in 20th century art (particularly abstract or semi-abstract), nature or urban photography, vintage maps and prints, and almost anything art deco or art nouveau. I'm also open to serendipitous discoveries that don't fit any of the above. Is there a place in New York that stocks a wide breadth of such things? [more inside]
Where can I buy Astra Beer in NYC? I'm sure it's available somewhere, but basic Googling hasn't turned up a specific store that has it. Before I start to make the rounds of all the beer stores in the area, I'd welcome suggestions of specific stores that are known to have it. Danke!

Has anyone stood on line for free tickets for Shakespeare in the Park recently? How bad are the lines? How early should I get there?
My sister is getting married in New York City in January. Since she and her soon-to-be-husband live in a bitsy studio in Midtown, my husband and I don't want to buy them any "stuff" as a wedding gift. Instead of dishes/towels/silverware, I'd like for us to treat them to dinner at an amazingly fancy place that none of us would ever dream of spending that much money on normally. The kind of epic dinner that you can talk about for the next 20 years. [more inside]
Recently there is this family brings their super noisy kids(about 5-6) to run and scream on the street infront of my apartment everyday from 6pm-10pm. The street is in a quite neighborhood, there are families, but I never hear or saw a single kids making such noise outside of there home on the street. One day I went down and talked to the parent and kids, that they shouldn't make noise like this, but they didn't listen and was quite rude, both the parent and the unruling kids. I really can't take this, it's extremly noisy, the screaming can't be stopped by closing my windows and putting on earplugs, not to mention it's hot summer that I need a little bit of breeze and peace in the evening at home. What Can I do? this is in NYC, is there any code for noisy street kids? thanks!
I'm helping my friend's Maid of Honor plan the bachelorette party. Due to a miscommunication, I thought we would be a party of 6 for dinner. Nope. It's between 12 - 15 people. I need to rethink. [more inside]
Can anyone suggest a relatively quiet place to study(must have power socket and wifi) without loud music and not too cold? In NYC, Brooklyn or Manhattan. Preferrably can stay for long hours. NYU library is too cold due to AC temp too low. I already wear long pant and fleece jacket, just cant sit still without chills. Thanks.
My grandmother is 89, and only retired in the last year. Since she's retired, she hasn't been doing much, and I'm worried about how she'll do over the next few years if she doesn't stay busy. I'd like to make a list of things she could be doing in NYC, where she lives, to stay active. She has some very specific needs and interests, though, and can be a bit ornery, so I'm hoping you can help me work within her limitations. [more inside]
