Help me find a therapist in NYC before I cry myself into oblivion.

I need to see a therapist but I have NO idea how to find one. I live in Brooklyn and would go anywhere in Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan (but mid/down town and northeast Brooklyn would be best.) I would prefer to see a woman, maybe someone who specializes in emotionally abusive relationships. I have Oxford insurance but I dont know if that even covers therapy. I could pay up to $100 a session out of pocket, I guess. I need to see someone as soon as possible. [more inside]

So many choices!! How to handle

I'm moving to the city with potentially the most choices of anywhere in the world (NYC). I'm anxious planner who spends 15 minutes a day figuring out where to eat lunch. Help me whittle my choices down on a daily and long term basis so I don't get stressed out by the experience. Types of choices include event, food, drink, attraction decisions.

Desperately need work to live & leave abuser. How to get regular notice?

Are there any good guides to approaching NYC employment agencies and consistently securing work? I need a job so I can leave my abusive partner, keep my tiny apartment, and see a therapist. I need stability. I’m a dedicated, bright, friendly, curious, and solid worker. I just don’t know how to make myself stand out or get a consistent response from either cold applications or agencies. One Person's Trash is Another's Yadda Yadda

I was taking a walk and found that somebody had left four bags of women's clothing on the curb labeled "FREE CLOTHES" alongside a futon also presumably free. The road is kind of off to the side, and doesn't get that much foot traffic by nyc standards. I want to report this find in a way, to make it more likely that it will go to somebody who could make use of it. Is this a good idea? If it is, what would be a good way to do so? Have considered craigslist, FB neighborhood post, freecycle forum(?). [more inside]

Dealing with self-obsessed roommate

I have a roommate who talks about herself until blue in the face. As a polite human, I will listen to her and interact. She will occasionally ask me how I am, and then will stick her nose in her phone and not show the slightest interest in my answer. I have 6 more months with her, and would like to have a non-insulting conversation with her about this pattern. How do I do that?

The top 1/3rd or so of 1 WTC is illuminated, at night, by intensely bright white lights which look almost exactly like construction lights hung in unfinished buildings. Other skyscrapers are lit by warmer yellowish office lights. What's the deal? Are those floors empty or is that just the new trend in skyscraper lighting?

Orthopedist recommendations in Manhattan?

Boy, did I mess up my knee. A sudden wrench, and . . . . it has since healed to the point where it basically doesn't hurt for regular walking and standing, but when I put any kind of sideways pressure on it or put weight on it while it is bent (as when going up or down stairs) it is extremely painful. This has been going on for a few months now and not improving, so perhaps it is time to go to the doctor. Can anyone recommend a good orthopedist in Manhattan? Thanks.

is this dresser too good to be true? in other words, is it bedbugs?

I found a dresser on the sidewalk in Brooklyn yesterday, the 30th. I rushed to take it, since it appeared to be of very high quality and, having recently moved, I needed one! Now, I'm paranoid I may have exposed myself to bedbugs - not because of any obvious empirical evidence, but because the risk in New York City is purportedly so high, and the piece could have been thrown out because of an infestation. (It could also have been the casualty of a move.) The only possible visual sign of any infestation is here, in the base of the dresser: http://imgur.com/ARBrX3K This white substance scattered and disappeared when I tried to scoop a bit of it up with some paper. I think it's probably wood shavings from the dresser itself; an extensive search turned up no obvious signs of droppings, shed skins, the things themselves. But this white, salt-like substance does not seem altogether inconsistent with eggs. Should I get this thing out of my apartment immediately?
