Recommendations for wireless router with some specific requirements.

We currently have a WRT-160N which has on the whole been a reliable workhorse. However, it hasn't handled the proliferation of internet connected devices in our household very well, and it's ethernet wired connection is painfully slow (100Mbs) with our attached NAS. It therefore needs replacing. Looking for your suggestions. Specific requirements follow... [more inside]

Play music from NAS to desktop speakers via…what?

I have a Synology NAS with all my MP3s on it. I also have some older speakers that I would like to put somewhere in my house (e.g., the kitchen) so my wife can listen to music, which she selects via her iPhone. And I would like to do it cheaply, natch. Right now she turns on the TV and uses the Roku's Pandora or I (heart) Radio apps, which take a lot more power than some dinky speakers. [more inside]

What storage solution am I looking for?

This is for my lab. Setup: two computers, both Mac Pros. Each runs the same psychology experiment software. (Python-based, FWIW.) Our subjects have multiple sessions, and may use one computer or the other on subsequent days. We have multiple experiments running at once. We use Unison to keep their data directories synchronized (it's better than running two rsync cron jobs) but it's starting to get temperamental. I know there must be a better solution, and I feel like it's hardware based. [more inside]

Explain NAS and file servers to me like I'm five years old. And dim.

I currently have a tangle of external drives hooked to my HTPC. WD TV live hates my filing system

I have a WDTV Live box and a NAS drive. My WD live will not properly refresh the contents, insisting that folders are empty when they are not, displaying files I have deleted, and not refreshing to show files I have added. Many files show up in the list 2 or 3 times, though some only show up once. I can't force a refresh, I've tried restarting the WDTV and disconnecting and reconnecting it to the network, but it just keeps showing me the same duplicates. How can I make it work?
