I'm preparing a lesson on irony and I'd like to illustrate the concept with a song. Problem is, my students are more interested in R&B and hip-hop than in my boring old-person rock and roll. Can you name some (fairly current) R&B/hip-hop songs that use irony? I'm thinking, like, "Born in the USA"-style irony -- nothing too subtle.

I've been digging on the cuban hip hop lately. I've seen the doc East of Havana. I listen to las Orishas, and I have the soundtrack/related album to East of Havana by El Cartel. I do like the artists featured there, but I enjoy las Orishas more because it feels a bit more infused with traditional Cuban music. Any recommendations of what else I can listen to? [more inside]

During Tuesday Night's CSI:NY (the one with a girl stabbed by an ice-bottle), there was a song about midway through that had a catchy, reggae/hip hop beat to it. Vaguely remembered lyrics include something about people struggling, "my feet keep hurting," and "we have had enough." Despite those sort of downtrodden words, it had a very upbeat sound to it. Can anyone help me find it? Google searching has gotten me nowhere. It sounds new and like it would be popular, but I couldn't find it in iTunes top 100 songs either.

In what rap song do we first hear this much-imitated lyric pattern?
"my name is ____ and i'm here to say...
[followed by a line that rhymes with 'say']"
Was there an actual sincere use of this rhyme by a hip-hop artist, or was this conceived of as a joke from the start?
It may be hard to have an answer for sure, but perhaps we can approach the origins by listing examples and dates for the examples.

I love the song "Zingy Final" (?) by Ak'Sent - I especially love the jungle, tribal kind of drum feel to this style of hip-hop. Every now and then I hear a song like this, but I'm at a loss as to what to search for - can anyone give me other examples of artists or songs to look for that project this kind of sound and feel?

I heard this great hip hop song on some college radio station while driving through Des Moines, IA. The song featured emo bands in the lyrics. For example, I think the first line was, "I took a death cab to see my cutie". Other bands listed in the lyrics were Sunny Day, Burning Airlines, My Chemical Romance, etc. It kinda sounded like Blackalicious, but I don't think it was them. Any idea who did it and where I can get it? Thanks.
