I am leaving my place shortly and moving into a new one, however there will be a period during which I will be camping out with various family and friends while the paperwork on the new place gets sorted and I get some work done to it. What is the minimum of stuff I should take with me in order to live comfortably on someone else's floor / sofa bed / guest room, while still not taking up too much of their space? Also, how do I deal with the lack of feeling settled / not having my own space? I haven't done this for a long time, so want to go in fully prepared.

Kind of a two-part question: 1) Looking for affordable, secure, climate controlled storage units north of Kansas City, and 2) dealing with the illogical sense of feeling abandoned by my parents as they talk about being unable to store my stuff in the future. (Sorry, a bit long inside)

A good friend of mine is moving from their hometown in the east coast into a house with me and a couple of my friends in the west coast. We knew each other in undergrad and I made the move out 2yrs before earlier than her. This will be the first time she’ll be living this far from her hometown and as expected, she’s anxious, nervous, stressed about the whole move.

Registered sex offender in the neighborhood, would you move in if you had two kids under the age of six? The house is perfect in a very quiet neighborhood at the end of long mostly dead end road. He was convicted 18 years ago of forcible rape with an 11 yr old boy. He is now married and lives just up the road and I mean "just". I would love to hear rational thoughts for and against. Thanks!

I am being transferred from NYC to Toronto in late October and, as I really only know TO as a tourist, have a couple of questions as I figure out where I should be looking for an apartment.

Moving mistakes? I'm looking for generalized moving advice, apartment to apartment. There are great threads (
this one on moving to NY is really a classic) but what about the nuts and bolts of getting things into boxes and out again? What did you screw up last time? What do you know now that I don't yet?
