I have two files, an Adobe Encore subtitle file of a particular film, and a dialogue list txt (no times) of a newer, shorter cut of that same film, which is to say that there is nothing in the short cut that isn't in the longer cut. I want to ensure that's the case and check the two versions for consistency, i.e. make sure the content in the new/shorter version matches the dialogue in the old/longer version. Is there an automated way to do this that doesn't involve CTL+F and a lot of cutting and pasting? Bonus challenge: the subtitle file is En/Chinese, the dialogue transcript is Chinese. I'm checking to make sure the Chinese is consistent. [more inside]

Looking for streaming (or downloadable) closed-captioned or subtitled TV shows and movies, preferably relatively recent and mainstream. Is there a repository of this stuff that I've been missing? I know Hulu has some CC media, but it's very limited.

Windows Media Player and Center in Vista suck at subtitles for the old b&w foreign flicks I watch. Subtitles are white and get washed out when the picture is white. Is there a hack or some other media player which will render the subtitles better (outlined or in yellow). (FYI: subtitles for these films show up great on my Sony DVD player.)

I went to see a foreign film yesterday and was dismayed that the subtitles were in white. Isn't it a proven fact that subtitles show up better when in yellow? Also, why are subtitles in a sans serif font? I read something sometime ago that printed text should be in a serif font because it's easier on the eyes. Something about the serif thingies allowing your eyes to flow from letter to letter easier than a sans serif font.

SubtitlesFilter: I'm an admirer of the films of Theo Angelopoulos, but his films have always been hard to get hold of. Recently, I managed to acquire a complete set of DVDs, having bought the things as soon as I saw them. The only problem is, they're subtitled in Japanese. I've tried searching for english subtitles on the internet, but to no avail. Short of learning to speak Greek or read Japanese, is there anything else I could do?

Where do I find English subtitle files for non-English films? If I have a Divx/xvid/whatever I can play a subtitle file along with it. This I already know. What I don't know is a good site to find these files. Any help?
