What are the best (inexpensive) rainy travel destinations?

Where can I inexpensively go on vacation and reasonably expect it to rain much of the time? One of my favorite things in life is to be outside in the rain, but I live in New York City, where, to my dismay, it rains only occasionally. I love sunshine as much as the next person, but I also long to be outside and feel the rain on me.

I want to go on vacation to places where I can experience rain for days on end. Hiking for a week in the rain (with proper rain gear, of course) would be my idea of heaven, but I'm not sure how to predict and plan that. Obviously weather is always unpredictable, but what are destinations (and corresponding times of year) where I could reasonably expect it to rain most of the time I'm there?

I'm open to cities, rainforests, countries with monsoon seasons, and other ideas. I'm open to traveling to other countries if it can be done affordably—I'm a budget traveler—but I'd also like to hear about places closer to home. Bonus points if it's somewhere I could drive to and camp at.

Traveling from Nepal to Tibet: during monsoon season? Seeking tour and advice

Traveling from Nepal to Tibet: during monsoon season? Seeking tour and advice I'm going to Nepal! I will be attending meetings in Kathmandu in June and would love to be able to travel on from there to Tibet. However, it's the start of monsoon season and from the searching I've done so far, many routes are closed and tours don't run from June onwards. I am quite happy to just fly to Lhasa and take a 2-3 day tour there before returning home. Unfortunately I don't have enough time for the 2-3 week trips offered by many of the tour companies.

I am no stranger to monsoonal weather in Asia, but I have mostly only traveled in more developed countries at that time of year.

Is it at all feasible to travel around these areas (even if I fly between the cities) in June?

Would I only need visas/permits for Nepal and Tibet (not China)?

Are there any recommended short tours that I could do in Lhasa, including flight bookings and guide if necessary? I like to visit temples, historical buildings, eat local cuisine etc. I'm a solo female traveler.

If it would not be possible to go to Tibet, how should I spend an extra day or two in Kathmandu, given the weather?

Thanks!

Monsoon fashion drama!

What to wear during the Indian monsoon season? I am going to India (Mumbai and Bangalore) in two weeks' time on a business trip. I am aware this is the monsoon season, so I was looking for tips from the hive mind on what to wear.

I am going to be meeting a series of senior-level people, but I am not sure how formally people dress on that kind of heat, also considering it is raining all the time? This may sounds ridiculous, but shall I bring a pair of wellies?

Kerala in the monsoon

Recommendations please for Kochi (Cochin, Kerala) and around, next week? I'm hoping to keep the cost low-to-moderate, as we can't afford pricy places, so specific suggestions for places to stay and things to do would be great. (Not general suggestions, though -- there's such a mass of ideas that I'm looking for personal recommendations. Thanks!)

Monsoon amp replacement

Can I replace the subwoofer/amp for my trusty old Monsoon external speakers? I have a Monsoon MM-1000 external speaker system for my Mac, like the one in this eBay listing. The amp died and I'd like to replace it but keep the speakers. All of the subwoofer/amps I've seen online show complicated hookups for home theater systems. All I need is something that can take input from the 1/8" headphone/digital jack on my Mac and let me hook up the speakers. Does anyone know of something that would work?

Rajisthan in the Wet season - to be avoided?

Should I avoid traveling in NW India during the monsoon? Planning a round-the-world trip; the only time I can go is summertime. The say it won't be so hot in India once the rains begin, but I'm wondering if it's rather pointless to spend much time there during the rainy season. Will I be able to appreciate sights like Jodphur and Jaisalmer in July, when it's allegedly raining buckets, and muddy? Or should I skip it and wait until I can return and spend more time there, in the optimal dry season?

I'm currently planing to fly into Delhi and out of Bombay, using the trains to travel between and to the places mentioned above -- any other related tourist tips are appreciated.

Recommendation for a lightweight warm weather rain jacket?

Please help me find a lightweight rain jacket for hot weather travel through monsoon prone regions? I'll be traveling to a monsoon region and I was looking for a lightweight rain jacket that I could throw into a backpack. Something like this Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket looks like it would work, although I'm not sure why this similar one (Sierra Designs Isotope Jacket) is so much ($60) more.

Looking for any other medium price (<$100) jackets. I'm new to the backpacking world, and there are many niche brands that I've never heard of...

Dealing with the Indian summer

India: When and where to go? We’re planning a trip to India and due to various upcoming commitments the window of opportunity is from early May to mid-July. But an Indianophile friend tells me that this time of year carries the double jeopardy of extreme heat and Monsoon rain. I’d like to hear from my fellow MeFites on this point, especially in terms of recommendations for areas less hit by these factors, or if it’s true that the heat and rain makes budget traveling almost impossible? Also, what is the best/cheapest port of entry?

Having trawled all the major travel sites, I’d also like to ask a bonus question: are there any non-mainstream places to look for better than average travel deals to India?
