This is embarrassing: I'm 25. I don't know the first thing about credit cards and building credit. I do not have a credit card, and therefore, no credit. Where do I even start?

Should I use the Mastercard sent from my pre-tax health spending account company? The literature says it simply draws down on my account, but I'm suspicious that there's a catch.

Help me find a credit card for emergencies, even though I'm too young for a real credit history and a little squigged out by the ethics of credit card companies.

When I was a dumb 16-year-old, I got a credit card from one of the largest issuers in the US. On the application, I was 100% truthful, except that I added 3 years to my DOB so that I would be over 18. I paid the card off in full, and closed it. I've also filed disputes with credit bureaus to correct my DOB. Are there any other ramifications I'm not considering?

How do you choose a credit card? I've been using a Visa through my credit union for the last 8 years, but it has a $1000 limit and I've been thinking I should have another card anyways. I have good credit, I pay my balance off completely every month, and I don't usually put a lot of money on it. So I started looking - there are literally thousands, and every single one I look at seems like some kind of scam. I've read
this, but it seems so arbitrary - is there any systematic way to approach it, or do you just have to close your eyes and start pointing?

There are a lot of goals that I am working towards, that are easily within my reach if I just stick to some simple routine tasks. However, I always wind up sabotaging myself by making excuses for or rationalizing getting off track, and ignoring the reminders and cues I have created for myself to stay on track. How can I knock it off so I can reach my goals?

I made a fairly subtanstial online purchase from a very large, well-known online vendor, with a credit card. Although the goods have long since arrived, my card has not been charged nor had a hold placed against it for any amount. A full billing cycle has passed since the purchase, and I'm wondering if they've just misplaced the bill. Should I contact their billing department, or just hope it never gets charged? And, if it doesn't get charged soon, how long should I wait until I can be reasonably sure it never will?
