Mirena: what am I in for?

I'm strongly considering getting an IUD of the Mirena or Skyla variety. I haven't used hormonal birth control in nearly twenty years. What am I in for? Bonus: did Mirena decrease your sex drive or make you moody? [more inside]

Off Skyla and onto the pill. Which one is making me feel like shit?

Depressed, teary and listless since quitting Skyla and starting generic loestrin about two weeks ago. Which of these two changes is more likely to be the culprit? Looking for others' experience with these drugs. [more inside]

Unprotected sex after second mirena insertion.

My doctor didn't know the answer to this, looked at me deadpan, and said "you can wait". Obviously. I'm just curious though, having immediately replaced one mirena with another, is there still the prerequisite seven day alternative contraceptive wait time?

Will the Mirena IUD make my brain explode?

I'm on track to getting the Mirena IUD within the next month or so, because I have insanely heavy periods. I know lots of people who have it and love it, but I have one worry -- I get migraines with aura, and am concerned that the Mirena might makes them worse. A bit more detail inside... [more inside]

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out

I am having a weird symptom lately that I don't know whether to attribute to depression, anxiety, or aging. Namely, I can't stop thinking about death and dying. I'm 26 and I am constantly thinking about how I could die at any moment and time is running out for me (and my loved ones). [more inside]

How to start an (awkward) conversation about my IUD

I had an IUD (Mirena) inserted about a month ago. I recently met someone new (yay!), he's great (yay!), and it seems that sexytimes are soon to be had (yay!). I think I need to talk with him about my IUD, though, and I don't know how. [more inside]

Cherry angioma and IUD...any connection?

I assume that's what all these bright pink/red flecks are, though they aren't exactly round and are not raised at all; completely flush with the skin. Anyway, they came on all of a sudden within a week or two of getting the Mirena. Historically I used combination pill then NuvaRing and never had these appear. Should I be concerned? Is it possible they have anything to do with the IUD?

Cervical barriers and rough sex

After years of experimenting with different types of birth control, I have an appointment to get fitted for a cervical cap. I'm curious to hear from other women who use this method how effective it is during rough sex and deep penetration. I know it's supposed to create a suction around the cervix, but how easy is it to be dislodged? Also curious about diaphragm and the Lea contraceptive. [more inside]

Headaches, depression, moodiness, PMS: Microgynon or Mirena

My hormones were a mess and 6 months ago my doctor suggested birth control pills to regulate them. I was put on Yasmin, and that worked great, I felt much better overall, except for the debilitating headaches once a month. I tried skipping the stop/placebo week, but that didn't work at all (severe headache and long breakthrough bleeding), and so much headache every month is not an option. [more inside]
