I'm a Chicagoan who has lived in Portland, OR for four years. I miss the Midwest and I'm considering moving to Minneapolis (or possibly St. Paul). Next week, I'll be visiting the Twin Cities to scope it out. Help me plan a kick-ass and productive itinerary for my limited time in town! Also, what small progressive church should I attend on Sunday morning? [more inside]
I rent a second floor apartment (815 sq ft) that is around 100 years old. I work from home a lot and summers in Minneapolis can get hot and humid! How do I improve the air flow and or keep it cool without air conditioning? Challenge: some of the larger windows do not open. [more inside]
Hi, we have guests visiting us in Minneapolis for the 4th of July holiday weekend. We've got a minivan and designated driver and we'd like to drive around and visit a number of small breweries/brewpubs tomorrow. We took them to Indeed, Fulton, and 612 last time they were in town. Where should we go? Surly seems like an obvious possibility, but where else?
Basically, where can I go to watch the Tony Awards this Sunday night in Minneapolis or St Paul? I must, must, must see Lin-Manuel Miranda in as real time as possible... but I don't don't don't have cable and I prefer to be in a crowd anyway. Help me be surrounded by my Hamilton people on Sunday night!
Where can I go in the Twin Cities metro area this weekend to see a selection of quality journals/planners? [more inside]

I need the entire roof replaced on my 1920's house in Saint Paul. Looking for recommendations from you fine folks. Thank you.
We were told that the taxes are based on the assessed value of the home, and that it didn't vary by neighborhood-- i.e. a $300k-valued home would pay the same property taxes whether it was in ritzy mc-ritzville or the wrong side of the tracks. But when we looked at property taxes, they seem to vary wildly by neighborhood. What gives? [more inside]
What is there to know about bicycle commuting in Minneapolis for someone brand new -to both bike commuting and/or Minneapolis? Is 8 miles one way too far? [more inside]
Hi, our favorite pediatrician is moving to a practice out in the far suburbs. We really like her, but it probably makes sense to find someone not so far from where we live. We live in south Minneapolis so someone in the city or a first-ring suburb would be ideal. As a non-doctor, I find it hard to evaluate anyone's medical skills, but we obviously want someone good who also has a rapport with children. We ask lots of questions (we are curious worriers) so a doctor who likes explaining things to parents would be great.
I'm looking for a room to rent in a long term, stable house with an orientation towards social justice and vegetarian living. Is anyone familiar with a house like this in Minneapolis/Saint Paul? [more inside]
Planning to move to Minneapolis St Paul and would rather pick the best neighborhoods to look into from afar (snowflakes inside) and would also like to figure out the transportation system so that I still be car free if possible. [more inside]

What's the best way to go about finding a lawyer to help me write a will? I know I could/should be able to do this on my own, but I'd feel more comfortable having someone else be responsible for dotting all i's and crossing all t's. This is in Minneapolis. [more inside]

In Missouri, I loved US Toy. In Minneapolis, is there something like this? I'm looking for something like Oriental Trading Company: The Store but with teacher supplies, like posters. I couldn't find anything aside from Lakeshore... Please Help!
Hi, I've recently started to make bagels at home. For best results, I need high-gluten flour. I'm sick of paying a lot in shipping costs when I buy from vendors on Amazon, but I also don't see that kind of flour in the grocery store. Can anyone recommend a cheaper online vendor they've used or suggest a local source or how I might find one? I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota (historically, the "Mill City," which makes me feel worse about paying to have flour mailed to my house.)
Looking for recommendations for a good, reasonably priced plumber and electrician in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. [more inside]
My boyfriend and I are travel novices, so we need advice about whether this is an OK idea or a stupid plan. (Southwest Airlines/air travel edition.) [more inside]
Next Thursday I have a 515a flight (on American née US Air, so Terminal 1 is my point of departure) out of MSP. Assuming I'll go through security at around 400-415, it seems silly to stay at a hotel the night before. The airport is open 24 hours. What I'm curious about is if I can I go through security around midnight and try to catch a few ZZZs in the terminal? If not, can I sleep safely outside of security, or will local law enforcement tell me to move along? [more inside]
I got lucky on my very first time using a camera, and I'm afraid to try again, 'cause I don't think I can come close to getting anything nearly as good. [more inside]
I’ve decided to finally move out of Madison, WI, for many reasons. I have traction now that my landlord won’t be renewing my lease, which expires in August, due to my lack of housekeeping. I’m hoping to move to Portland, OR, with Minneapolis in second. I’m aware that I’m not a desirable tenant at all for a number of reasons, and I’m trying to start strategizing now how to get an apartment of my own. More inside. [more inside]
Hi, my wife is looking to buy a new bike and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular store in Minneapolis or its environs. Neither of us knows all that much about bikes and the last time she bought one it wasn't a great experience (the clerk sold her a bike that really wasn't a good fit for her needs and the people at that shop are snotty.)
SO and I will be in Minneapolis for a bunch of days around Memorial Day. I used to be a frequent visitor, but haven't been back in a few years now. What are things we should do? [more inside]

Does anyone have tips on finding apartments beyond Padmapper? When is a good time to actually look/sign leases for apartments for next August? Apartments seem to go extremely fast here and I'm afraid I'm missing out on something by not signing a lease right now. Also, are there any neighborhoods you would recommend for a graduate student at the U? [more inside]
I'm in this class with some people. For unrelated reasons - but the idea of a tattoo field trip is funny! - we would like to go as a small group to get some tattoo touch-up work and some simple piercings. No one has had work done in the Twin Cities recently and we're not sure where to go. [more inside]

Is it going to be possible to see the northern lights in Minneapolis tonight? Will it be similar to a meteor shower, where one needs to get pretty far from the glow of the city lights to enjoy the show? Any tips/suggestions for how to make the best of it, or suggestions of particularly good spots from which to see it?
After watching our house not sell for 3 months (with one offer that would require us to bring 40k to the table!), we think it might be time for more creative solutions. Tell me about Strategic Defaults in Minnesota. [more inside]

Can you recommend any restaurants with tasty onion rings in Minneapolis, St. Paul, or any of the Twin Cities suburbs? I can't recall what the onion rings are like at different restaurants and her examples of good rings are from other cities.

So my fiance is very smart, hardworking, great with people, courteous, etc and so forth. He's currently working as a lead teller at a large banking corporation. He's been there for a while, and the management staff over him have all rotated and gone from being pretty good managers to people that make working there frankly awful for him. He of course wants to leave, but both of our experience has been that looking at places that post lots of classifieds from different sources is that you may as well mail your application to the void. SO! What are your recommendations for specific employers whose job postings we should keep an eye on? [more inside]
