The Best of Miami and South Beach?

Spending next week in Miami... tell me about the best food on Miami Beach and South Beach, also cultural experiences in Little Havana and Little Haiti. My fiancee and I will be in Miami from Mon to Saturday next week, staying at the renovated Fontainebleau. What are your favorite restaurants etc. on Miami Beach and South Beach?

Especially interested in sushi, Indian, lounge type nightclubs (not dance clubs), great salads or salad bars, diners, pizza and any other great small local spots. We don't mind expensive or upscale restaurants, but we especially like good local spots and ethnic food.

We're also interested in going into the city itself to visit Little Havana and Little Haiti - where should we eat in these neighborhoods?

Anything else in the city itself that is a must-see or must-eat?

Your U.S. election is for our entertainment. But where do get a good seat?

So we’re planning a holiday to coincide with the election on November 4th. We figure it will be a very special occasion, with a good chance to see new sides of the U.S. But where to go? The current favorites are Miami and L.A. (would be nice to catch some sun as well), but we might want to go somewhere a little more foreign to some liberal Scandinavians such as ourselves (Denmark). Austin has been mentioned, but we don’t really know that much about it…
(bonus info: we are single guys, late 20-ies, so partying and going out is mandatory)

Where to go between Key West and NYC?

Road trip from Florida to NYC. Where to go, what to do? I'm flying in to Ft. Lauderdale from San Francisco on September 24th. I need to be in New York City on October 4th. What to see/do in the meantime?

Tips on where to go in New York are readily available, but I'm sort of stuck on the part before that. I've got 1,5 week in which I'd like to see Key West, Washington DC, Miami. But where else can I go and what's a reasonable route to take? I'll be renting a car. Thanks in advance for your tips!

And of course, should you live along my route I'll be happy to buy you a beer!

Is the Fontainebleau hotel too far north on Miami beach?

Is the Fontainebleau hotel too far north on Miami beach? My fiancee and I are planning our first vacation in Miami. Since I'm in the travel industry, I have a great deal at the Fontainebleau (set to re-open in October), but I'm concerned it may be too far from restaurants, bars, shops, etc in South Beach.

We won't be club hopping every night, but we will want to go out for a bagel, a lunch, dinner, etc. It looks like the only businesses near the Fontainebleau are other hotels, so I picture us having to drive to the city or South Beach once or twice a day.

Any opinions on this will be helpful. Is driving and parking in the area a challenge? Is the beach at the Fontainebleau as nice as South Beach? Any other factors to consider?

Good, cheap fun in Miami this weekend?

I'm headed to the north Miami area for a long weekend, and I'm looking for fun, cheap things to do. I've been down there quite a few times, and have a family member in the area who I'll be visiting, so I'm looking for your best suggestions of the things that people never actually get around to seeing when they live in the area but that are worth playing tourist to go see. I'm visiting a family member in Miami who has recently fallen on tough financial times, and so the usual set of things we do down there aren't feasible this time around. I want to come armed with a list of fun stuff that is not too pricey to suggest for our daytime activities. The last time I was down there I toured around Vizcaya for a few hours, which was perfect--I'm looking for things in that vein. Tours of cool buildings, fun festivals happening this weekend, anything like that. We'll have a car, and driving (even an hour or two) isn't too much of a problem. What are the hidden gems of the Miami area?

Breakfast in Miami

We'll have a short morning in Miami. Where would we find a good vegetarian breakfast, pref. near the airport? We'll be flying in late on a Friday, and heading straight to a hotel right by the airport. The next morning we pick up a rental car, and we have condo reservations in Key West. However, this might be our only time in Miami, and we'd like to at least have breakfast somewhere interesting. Has to have good vegetarian food, and it would be nice if it were around the airport.

But, if we end up straying from the airport, is there anything else we MUST DO before heading out of town for KW?

Help me to find a place to stay in Miami for a week in March.

Help me find a place to stay in Miami for a week in March 07. I am traveling to Miami in March 07 for a conference that takes place in the Radisson Hotel. I need a cheap place to stay for a week. Is a hotel my only option? and if so, where are the cheap hotels? Are there flats for rent for a week? I am traveling with another person and we could share a small flat which will be ideal if it is more economical than a hotel. I never been to Miami, and coming from England have very little idea of what to expect. Will it make sense to rent a car, or is it possible to go everywhere by public transport? Thanks a lot for your help.

Hotels in South Beach?

Where should my Mom and I stay in South Beach in March? My mother and I are taking a road trip to South Beach in March. We'd like to stay near the beach, not spend a ton (although I realize we will have to shell out some and I'm willing to spend more for a nice place- I just might not tell my cheap mother the full price), and be near lots of fun restaurants, shops, etc. Any specific recommendations? (Warnings are also welcomed.)

2 Chileans in Miami

My lovely wife and I will be spending about a week in Miami starting next week. What should we see, where should we go? Background: Me:35y/architect Her:29y/Film Critic. We have both lived in the US previously, though we now live in Chile. She's never been to FLA, I have but not as a tourist. We're already going to Disney.
What places should we see in Miami and its environs? Are there any design- art- oriented neighborhoods? With lots of little shops and cafes and a bookstore or two? What's a good non-mall shopping area?
We're not party animals, but will be going out, so what nightspots (or areas) are fun and exciting without being too packed and too teenagey? It doesn't have to be super trendy or chic, either.
We've both done a fair bit of travelling and are jaded in regards to museums, churches, organized tours, etc, but would go see a really interesting exhibition or such.
I know about Art Deco in South Beach (right?), what other parts of the city would the architect in me want to sketch?
Anything by the sea is a plus, though I guess that won't be too much of a problem.
We're staying at a relative's house near the airport. Should we rent a car or do they have that new fangled public transportation?
Links to interesting (cool but not too cool) webguides, etc are more than welcome.
