I'm considering visiting Miami for a few days over Thanksgiving. What do you recommend for a first-time visitor? [more inside]
I'm about to be in Miami working at the comic convention from the 29th to the 5th. I'll be working at the Miami Beach Convention Center, staying at the Hyatt Regency on 2nd, and for every day but the 5th will only have a few hours free in the evenings. On the 5th I need to be in Ft. Lauderdale by 3, but I have the morning free. I am expecting to dislike Florida in a multitude of ways, but want to remain open minded and have fun and learn something despite that. [more inside]
My wife and I recently moved to Miami, Florida, having previously lived in more pedestrian-oriented cities. We've learned that many people view driving here as a free-for-all, with little regard for rules, responsibility, or merely trying not to kill anyone. I don't expect to single-handedly change this culture, but I would like drivers to have better awareness of one pedestrian crossing in particular and for cars to actually stop when people are walking in it. What are the things I can do to make this happen? [more inside]
My family is going on a Disney Cruise in April out of Miami! Yay! Before that, we want to spend a couple of days vacationing on land. But we have many questions. [more inside]

We´re going to Florida to visit a relative this week. She lives in Port Saint Lucie (1.5 hour drive from Miami). We will arrive at MIA very early in the morning (Around 3:30 AM) and will depart at 5 AM five days later. We have rented a car but we´re not sure what to do during our arrival and departure days. More after the jump. [more inside]

Wife and I will be spending an upcoming long weekend on Miami beach. Looking for some really good restaurant recommendations, specifically Cuban/Spanish and any other "must sees" while there.
My husband and I want to go on vacation this spring. We're thinking Miami! We'll spend about a week, probably in mid-march. We'd love your opinion on all things miami. Where to go, where to stay, and are we going to be able to do this when we don't drive a lick? We've never been to south florida. What should we do?! [more inside]
I'm going with some family on a 4 day 3 night cruise from Miami to Nassau and back. Yay! I've got the flying part and the sitting on a boat sipping umbrella drinks part down, but I have questions about some of the interstitial parts of the trip. [more inside]
I was caught by the camera going through an intersection while the light was red because there was also a green arrow allowing me to turn left legally. What are the odds of winning this when the photos are such poor quality that the green arrow looks like a faint green blob? [more inside]
Interested in craft cocktail bars in Miami and Miami Beach. I've been to the Broken Shaker and the Regent Cocktail Club. Would love more suggestions. Thanks!
I'm going to Florida next week with my old parents, so I'm looking for activities and places to go for people who prefer not being too physically active. We'll be staying in Miami, Key West, and Naples. [more inside]
Looking for ideas to get a corsage for the bride and a boutonniere for the groom on short notice in Miami. These will be for a casual wedding ceremony on Thursday late afternoon (2 days from now). They don't have to be fancy, but it would be nice to have good quality flowers and for them to be well made.
Due to random business trip scheduling, I will have a full Sunday to myself in Miami in early December. What can't-miss things should I do, see, eat, and bring home with me? Alternately, is there some great cafe or bar for me to hang out at with my AlphaSmart and write? Special snowflake details inside! [more inside]
We have inherited a dated 2 bedroom condo in Sunny Isles, Florida that we intend to sell in the autumn. The market for permanent residents and snow birds is pretty strong, and we've decided not to do a gut reno, but do want to "neutralize" it somewhat with fresh paint and flooring. White paint is easy to decide, but how to replace the 10 year old blue carpet is puzzling us. As a Floridian, would you want / expect ceramic throughout a 2 bdrm condo or laminate "hardwood"? Why? Our realtor advises ceramic tile throughout, but as Ontarians, that seems weird for bedrooms. I have seen this question but our situation is really focused on immediate resale in an upper middle class community - universally attractive is more important than durability.
I'm going to Miami area for to celebrate a special occasion with my wife. I need some help planning where to stay/what to do. Thanks all! [more inside]
So I will be staying at The Standard Hotel in Miami next week. I will only be staying there on weeknights. From what I read on the internet, valet is $37 and takes sometimes an hour to retrieve your car. Thus I have several questions: [more inside]
My cousin, who also happens to be my favorite little dude on the planet, is turning nine in a couple weeks. For most of his life, I've lived on the other side of the country so he really only knows me through infrequent holiday visits, but for the next few months we're going to be in the same city and I'm super excited for us to get to know each other better during this time. Because I've been a deadbeat cousin, I don't know specifically what he's into (although he likes typical high energy 8 year old stuff like wrestling his friends, reading books, video games, and exploding coke bottles with mentos) but I'd like to get him something completely awesome anyway. North Miami filter: In a short while I will find myself at short notice staying in a hotel in North Miami, on Biscayne Boulevard near 123rd Street. I will have a car. What kind of area have I ended up in, is there anything I should see nearby in the evening, and most importantly: is there anywhere nearby for a really good breakfast?

I am meeting my parents (both in their late 60s - early 70s, but fairly active) in Miami for the whole of next week. They're flying in from abroad and I am flying from California. We had plans to drive around the area a little bit and see the sights with not a lot of planning, but that was before Isaac came along. I haven't seen my parents in a while and it will be good to spend some time together, so I am not cancelling the trip. What are some good things to do in the Miami area in the wake of a tropical storm? We'll be staying in South Beach and we have a car. Tips of great restaurants, museums and (indoor?) activities are appreciated.
Can you suggest some amazing places for me to visit within a ~10 hour drive of Orlando, Florida? I will be leaving Orlando on September 1st and have to be back either in Orlando or in Atlanta, Georgia afternoon of 7th September for my flight back to London, England. New Orleans is one enticing idea so far, Miami slightly less so...but very keen to get some suggestions from the hive mind. Everything from historic landmarks to city culture to the big wide open considered (and I'm a big fan of freshwater swimming too). [more inside]

I'm looking for recommendations for first-date ideas in Miami. The catch is that the first date is with someone who lives 2000 miles away from me, and we're both traveling to Miami from elsewhere. I want to spend time getting to know him in a low-key way, but also see a little bit of Miami while I'm there. Suggestions for places we should see/those we should avoid? [more inside]
I'm going on a solo, semi-spontaneous trip to Miami/Fort Lauderdale the second week of January. I've never been to Florida before. I'm into contemporary art, interesting pescaterian/vegetarian food, bicycles, boats, and budget non-touristy fun. What should I do? [more inside]

Recommendations for traveling south of Miami. We are planning to fly into Miami, rent a car and drive south down Highway 1 toward the Keys. We want to go down in Feb or March. Where should I focus my research on the area to decide which destination to go to and what we must see or do along the way. We want the adult version of spring break. That means fun parties in the evening, exploring historical or interesting places during the day. Warm sandy beaches at some point are a must. Anyone know anything about that area? There is just so much there I don't know where to start.
