Why is my laptop limited to 2Gb total memory, according to the specs? It has 2 PC2-5300 DDR2 memory slots, and the manufacturer sells a 2Gb card for it (in addition to 1Gb cards). Maybe a dumb question, but why can't it take two 2Gb cards? It's a Toshiba Satellite L45-S7423.

ok so my girlfriend's laptop was rediculously slow and infested with spyware, viruses, and who knows what else. I couldn't even work on it it was so slow. .. Checked the memory .. it was only 256.. got 1024 from crucial.com in two 512 sticks. Should have no problem wiping the spyware .. problem is with the memory!! [more inside]

I've been thinking of upgrading the memory in my Sony Vaio PCG-GR370 laptop for some time now, but recently it came to my attention that there may be issues with some vaios that do not recognize memory above 256Mb (which is what I currently have in it). I attempted a google for issues with it, but, well... Just try search for "sony vaio memory 512" on google and you'll see how useful it is.

Which brings me to my question: Does anyone know anything about said issues with vaios? If so, do they apply to me?
